Embedding Video & Performance

Hello,

There has been a lot of improvements with the video element since the last time this was really addressed that I was able to find in 2016. Performance wise, embedding vs player. Is one much more different than the other? It looks like a player with a youtube source still gets embeded? (Just going based off how it looks) … so thought i’d just ask from a performance way, which way is best to go?

Hello @fxground,

Thanks for writing to us.

Yes, the Video element would allow you to embed the Youtube video as well as the self-hosted video. In case you have not seen the Video element doc please have a look at it to learn more about how to insert the video into the website. If site performance is a top priority, and if you have limited server resources, embedding YouTube videos can be a good option since YouTube videos are typically faster to load because they are hosted on YouTube’s servers. On the other hand, self-hosted videos require the hosting server to deliver the video content, which can sometimes result in slower loading times.

Hope it helps
Thanks
