Editing Home Page in Cornerstone with WPML changes other language

Hi there

When I edit my German Home Page in Cornerstone with WPML, after saving the changes, the Italian version of the Home Page has turned in German too, except the Italian Blog, which is inserted in the right bar.

When I edit all the other pages, everything works fine, the problem is only with the Home Page.

Any idea, what could be the problem?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Felix,

Thank you for writing in, How did you translate it? have you translated it through Wordpress editor or within the builder? It looks like you only translated it through the editor.

If the page is created from the cornerstone, then the translation should be made from Cornerstone too.

Please check this thread.

Cheers!

Hi friech

Thank you very much for your reply and the link to the thread. It would be good to know, which was the culprit plugin. Any idea?

I think, all my pages are translated within Cornerstone. All other content pages are working fine. I just have this problem with the Home Page. I also see the Italian text in Cornerstone builder, but when I save the page, it appears in German.

I will check the step by step instruction from Rad but I think it would be goo to know, which was the culprit plugin in the thread you sent me. Is it possible to ask @ceciliasifontes what was the problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Felix,

Yes, we can ask @ceciliasifontes. You might want to send a private message instead.
If you are suspecting for a plugin, while waiting for her reply, you can test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hey Felix,

You can direct message another user by clicking the Message button on their profile page.

The only known conflict we currently have is between WPML and Yoast SEO. Your issue is similar to this thread.

If you’re using optimization plugins and CDN, please temporarily deactivate them while this issue is happening.

Thanks.

Hi Christian

Thank you very much for your reply. I have tryed to contact Cecilia several times but got no answer…

So I took the whole Website to my development server and deactivated all other plugins. The problem was still there.

Something must be wrong with the Home page. All other pages are working perfectly.

If I make a change on the german Home page and save, it overwrites the italian version of the Home page. The italian menu and the italian Blog widget are still there in the correct language but all other content has changed to german. Even the italian Version of Slider Revolution Slide-Show has changed to the german one.

To change this to the italian Slide-Show, I have to edit the italian Home page in Wordpress (not in Cornersone) to set the italian Slider below Masthead. When saving, thefollowing message appears:
On tuccillo.ch the following is displayed: You are updating a double entry. In order not to lose its change, WPML will post this contribution so that it will be independently translated.
(see attachment).

Could this be a Note about the problem?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Felix,

I think you need to disconnect your translated page and enable Translate Independently. Please check this please.

Check your Italian page settings under Language. Compare it with other Italian pages settings. See the difference.

Other option is try saving your homepage default language as template using Cornerstone. Then create a new page. Load this homepage template, then try to translate again in Italian. Check if the issue on this new page. Not sure what happened on the homepage but since you have done basic troubleshooting already, let’s this approach for too.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lely

Thank you very much for your help. There was something wrong with my current German and Italian Home-Pages.

I did as you suggested and saved the German version as a template and translated a complete newly build Home Page into Italian. Now it works perfect!

Thank you again for a great support!

You are most welcome.
