Duplicating a Page No Longer Works

We’ve always had no issues using 3rd party page-duplication plugins (eg. Post Duplicator) to duplicate pages edited in Pro. However, now when we do this, the Pro editor opens the copied page like its a new/blank page and asks how we want to start out. Going into the WP editor, you see all your short codes there, but for some reason Pro no longer picks it up as a valid Pro page. It’s been a few months since we’ve duplicated a page so we aren’t sure when this issue began, but are you aware of this, are their plans to fix it, and do you know of any plugins that will properly duplicate a page that Pro can edit? Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out!

I suspect that duplicating the post using Post Duplicator will not work with Cornerstone because it will be threatened that the page was edited outside the Cornerstone. Please keep in mind that you cannot edit the content of Cornerstone outside the builder. That being said, If you want to duplicate the page, I suggest that you save the content as a template then load it to your new page. Please check this documentation on how it is done.

My inquiry was to understand why this is happening so that we can find a solution. Having to create templates of every page we want to duplicate each time we want to duplicate it is not a viable solution. Can we figure out why this is happening? This is a big deal.

The Post Duplication works before (X Shortcodes, Pre Cornerstone Builder). With the latest version of Cornerstone, it no longer works because the Cornersone element contents and styling were being saved as post meta or cornerstone data attached to each post. Unless the Post Duplicator plugin copies all the post data up to meta or custom field label, editing the duplicate page or post will be possible in the builder. For now, we highly recommend that you use the Cornerstone Builder’s Template Manager to make sure that all of the cornerstone data is saved on the new page.

Just to follow up on this - and this is research you guys should have done since you broke the functionality…

The plugin called “Duplicate Pages, Posts & CPT” correctly duplicates pages created in Pro and is the only plugin of its nature that we have found to do it correctly. Feel free to pass this on to your staff.
