Dragging Elements into DIVs

Hi @alexander!

Let me start with some issues from the official release that are still present in the Beta. One them is the issue with dragging elements into Div elements:

So in this example I am trying to move a title into a Div. It took me five tries before it caught up. I have this problem on the daily basis, really slowing the work down.

Thanks!

Yes, I’m sorry, we still know that’s an issue. It’s regretfully difficult to address directly so we’re not going to fix it until we do some refactoring of that Outline panel under the hood. There are some other performance bottlenecks in that component tree as well. We want to support multiple selection and inspection of elements, and to do that would require rewriting most of the logic of the Outline panel. It will look visually the same, but we’re going to rebuild it at which point this would all work properly and we’ll be closer to some more improvements.

That’s fantastic! No problem, I’ll live with it!

I hope you will also do some tuning in the Content area as well. When there are multiple elements, I often click on something and the element doesn’t get selected. Instead, it turns into semi transparent stripes for few seconds and then shows up again, unselected. Then I click it one more time to get it selected. Sometimes it needs three times to be clicked.

Also, the drag & drop still feels too sensitive and not too precise. A unintentional click on an element is sometimes able to displace it into a neighbouring section. Plus moving an element into a place between other elements often results in dropping it below or above those elements, with the need to relocate it again. Plus, placing something into the bottom position is sometimes not possible. I need to drop an element to the second-last position, and then move the last element above it.

This is not the case when there is only one or few sections. In that case Pro’s drag & drop is far better than for example the Elementor’s solution that is really wonky. Good luck moving a headline element there. But once the page gets filled up, Elementor’s drag & drop keeps its reliability (and its wonkiness), while Pro gets increasingly less precise.

Don’t worry, it is nothing critical. But a feeling of reliability with a solid drag & drop in the builder would certainly mean a lot.

Just to follow on this. It has become increasingly difficult to select certain items in the builder preview.

Specifically things like accordions, modals etc. usually these things open or close the accordion, open the navigation or whatever but I just can’t select them to edit them and need to revert to the layout panel.

I have no scientific evidence of it but it feels like selecting elements in general in the builder has become much harder with Pro 4…

Thanks @Misho! Yes, I’ve been seeing the same and concur it can be frustrating. Hopefully starting fresh from an implementation standpoint with what we’ve learned will help us iron all that out.

@urchindesign You’re right, since towards the end of last cycle there’s been an issue inspecting some elements that have their own click handlers. We’ll get that sorted out.
