Design Cloud on Staging Server Issue

Hi-

I set up a separate version of my site (bostonhypnosis.com) on my host’s server. From that site on the staging server, I chose a design cloud site to import onto a blank page I had set up. Instead of installing to my staging server site (https://bostonhypnosiscom.stage.site/), all the design cloud stuff overwrote the home page of my active site . Can you give me any guidance for using design cloud without messing up my active site? Thanks.

-Brian

Hi Brian,

Thank you for writing in, which Design Cloud asset did you install? Please note that the “Site” demo is a complete site and it will overwrite your existing site configuration, so if the asset that you need is a part of a “Site” asset then please import it into a testing environment, then save the section that you need as a template and import that to your live site as a template.

Cheers!

Thanks for getting back to me. I imported the Lawyer whole site demo. Instead of going to the staging server where I did the import (where I was expecting the configuration to be overwritten) it loaded and reconfigured my live site. Can you tell me how to prevent this from happening so I can just work on it on the staging site?

Hi @bmahoney59,

It would be best if you can tell us how you setup your staging area because your staging area and your live website is different WordPress install, right? then it shouldn’t override your live content when you make changes into your staging area.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Can you tell me specifically what information you want about the staging setup? I’ll have to ask Dreamhost, I have no idea.

Hi Brian,

This sounds like your live site and dev site are not separate install, so we are confused about this as well. Please let us know what your Hosting said about this. Ask them straight if your live site and dev site are two different WordPress install or not.

In the meantime, if possible, setup a local dev site where you can import the site demo,

Thanks,

Hi-

Yes they are two different sites for sure. I had them try to do it and this is what they said:

ello, Brian

I tried setting up the demo from the staging site but I found this error:

“Your license of X is not validated. Place your Envato purchase code or
Themeco license to unlock automatic updates, access to support, and
Extensions. Learn more about product validation or manage licenses
directly in your Themeco account.”

The license is valid on the production site. It looks like the license
will only be valid if you work on the original URL, our staging site is
bostonhypnosiscom.stage.site which would be recognized as a different
domain.

Is there anything from the theme support that comments on these
situations? Normally there’s a constant that can be added to the
wp-config.php to bypass this problem. Or maybe import the demo from the
live site and then modify on the staging site.

Can you help with this?

Hello Brian,

I would suggest you add your staging server domain URL to your Themeco account Dashboard. Please note that our license key supports multiple domains one for the production domain that is live server domain URL and another one for the staging server domain. You can go to your Themeco account dashboard and click on the register site name —>Click Add Staging button to add the Staging URL. Please have a look at the given screenshot in the secure note. After you would add the correct staging URL it would validate your staging domain and then you can pul the design cloud template there on the staging server.

Thanks

Awesome! Thanks for the fast reply. I was able to do this and I’m all set.
