Creating new archive page with categories

Hello. I want a archive page that only shows posts tagged with a specific category. I’ve duplicated the main posts page in WP Admin to make this page: https://cititecdev.wpengine.com/resource-centre/downloads/

In Cornerstone, I’ve duplicated the archive page template which the main blog page uses.

Now I’m stuck. I’ve updated the conditions on the new archive template page I made with the goal of only showing posts in a certain category.

But, I don’t know how to tie the new archive template page to this page.

Thanks!

Hello @CititecTalent,

Thanks for writing to us.

The given download category page URL is a page. Please note that it is not a category archive page. The category archive page for the download page URL will be this.
https://cititecdev.wpengine.com/category/downloads/

I checked the layout which you have created for the download category, it seems that you have enabled the Looper provider here. Please note that you don’t need an extra loop on the archive page since the default WordPress loop is working there. I would suggest you please go to the Layout and disable the Looper provider.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Hi @prakash_s - thanks for your feedback.

I turned the looper off, but I’m afraid I’m still confused about how to make a category page.

I might be better if you list the steps of making a blog category page where the default posts page is using an archive page template. Is that possible?

Thanks

Hi Ben,

The Archive Layout uses the WordPress default query and does not need the Looper Provider separately. You can go through the following article on how the Archive Layout works.

Hope it helps.
Thanks
