When both elements are present on a page, the counter element does not count. No console errors.
I just tried this - it worked for me.

Dug deeper, looks to be an offset issue on my test page. The counter was just barely above the viewport, but still 100% visible on screen. A slight scroll triggered the counting to start.
Not sure if that’s an issue or not, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker.
