Converting from X to PRO with new site build

We are doing a full site rebuild for a client including a change of hosting. I plan to convert their X license to PRO and install PRO only on their new hosting environment. Will this have an impact on their current environment? I don’t want to convert that environment to PRO, I’d like to keep it in X and simply decommission it once the new PRO site is live and DNS is converted from the old host to the new host.

Let me know if I should expect any issues designing a new site in PRO while keeping the old X site live during development.

Thanks!

Hello @lydonassoc,

Thanks for writing to us.

To convert from the X theme to the Pro theme you need to take a full backup of your site files and database. In case if you haven’t seen our doc please have a look at it.

I would suggest you deactivate the Cornerstone page builder plugin before installing the Pro theme on your server since there is an inbuilt Cornerstone plugin in the Pro theme so it might cause an error on the site.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Sorry. Perhaps I wasn’t clear.

I want to leave my current X Theme site alone and in place while we build a new version of the site in PRO on another hosting service.

  1. Can I upgrade the X Theme license to PRO and install PRO on the new hosting service for development, or will this cause issues with the license on the old X Theme site?

  2. Is there a way that I need to manage the licenses so I can keep the old X Theme site up-to-date during development on the new hosting site using the upgrade of PRO on that same license?

Thanks.

Hi @lydonassoc,

If you convert to Pro, it will still keep the original X site validated on the same purchase code. It’s setup this way to avoid lapses in Validation while you’re moving things around. I would advise doing this:

  • Convert to Pro
  • Install Pro on the new server and validate using the “staging URL” option on the license
  • Build your new site
  • When you launch the site, remove the staging URL

That should keep everything validated while you’re working on the new site. Because you’re just redesigning an existing site, and the original one will be replaced, there’s no need to purchase an additional license.

Fantastic. I was hoping I didn’t have to purchase a new license. Thank you.

You are most welcome, @lydonassoc!
