Component shortcode

Hi, I can see from the docs I should be able to get a shortcode for components as per:

“Display your component anywhere in your site using the Component’s Shortcode which you can access under Manage Element > Active Statuses.”

But I’m in Cornerstone for the component I want to use and I’m not finding “manage element” anywhere. Where do I go to find “manage element” and grab a shortcode?

I’m not even sure if this is the best method, as I’d like to add it to Wordpress Sidebar in the widget area. Maybe there’s a better way to do this?

Thanks

Hello @RachelDi,

Thank you for the inquiry.

First, make sure you’re editing a Component item. Simply right-click the element, click Manage, apply a name or label to the element or component, and then toggle the Export Component checkbox. Once this is toggled, you should be able to copy the component shortcode in the Active Statuses section. For more info, please check the documentation below and watch the short video when you have the time.

Where do I right click?

I’m in cornerstone, in the component I want to use where I can edit it.

When I right-click where it’s displaying the layout, I only get “manage” for the section. Not the whole component (I have about 3 sections in the component). When I right-click in the sidebar area where the outline and elements are, I just get the regular browser menu. No “manage” option.

Am I supposed to export every section vs the whole thing together?

I can put my multiple sections into one section.

But if there’s no way to actually get the “component” as a shortcode, I would ask y’all update the documentation to clarify that the shortcodes are only available for sections, not an entire component. As well as how to access by right-clicking (since this isn’t mentioned in the article). For reference, here is the article I was looking at: https://theme.co/docs/component-builder-overview#component-shortcode. Unless there is a way to get the component as a whole, in which case please clarify.

Also curious if there’s a better way to get a component into WP sidebar area or is getting a shortcode the correct way to approach this?

Update: The shortcode didn’t display in the widget area of WP sidebars.

So revised question: How do we get a component or a section into a wordpress sidebar? Or is that not possible?

Hello Rachel,

If you have enabled the Component Export, you won’t be able to display it on the sidebar. Please provide us with your WP details so that we can check on your component element. You can create a secure note in your next reply with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WP login URL
– WP username
– WP password
– WP Administrator Role
– Confirmation that we can access and make changes to your site
