Bug Report: Cornerstone - Browser freezing while menu editing

Hi Team,
on pretty much every of our X Sites we have the issue, that once you click on Design/Menu to edit the menu, the browser freezes and it is impossible to edit menues right now.
We were able to replicate and trackdown the issue:

Wordpress 6.1
No Plugins, only default theme and/or X plus cornerstone.
The site is running on Nginx/Plesk.
We confirmed all core files to be intact.

• If the default theme is on, everything works.
• If you use X it works as long as you do not enable Cornerstone (latest)
• Enabling cornerstone causes the severe slowdown of editing menus.

Now: On the testsite there are basically no menu items. Here it is “only” a severe slowdown. On any live site with more menu items, it is impossible to load the menu items.
Please note that the site runs on a dedicated host, it is no ressource issue.

Hello @RachelDi, Thank you for the very detailed post information. This is actually a common issue if you have more than 20 or more menu items (including submenu items). thank you for the kind reply. We tested it on the testsite. Right now there is this active

max_input_vars = 20000
suhosin.request.max_vars = 20000
suhosin.post.max_vars = 20000

Unfortunately this does not solve it. We went very high with the settings.

• There is only ONE menu item.
• The standard theme iworks.
• It only happens with Cornerstone active.

I can load the menu for the Footers and for the main menu.

Can you please provide a video screenshot so we can have an idea of how we can replicate the issue?

Thank you Ruenel for the time to test,

as we did a lot of testing too, you helped me already. If it works for you it must be on our end.
We found it, and it might be important for you too:

As soon as a Lastpass Browser Extension is used, there seems to be a conflict when editing menus in Wordpress. I have no idea why, however the Cornerstone + Lastpass do not work together there.
We all use Lastpass, so we did not think of that while testing.

We are really not aware that the LastPass extension can be a reason behind this problem. Thank you for your findings, it might help others to get rid of this problem.
