Beta2; "Clone Existing" gone?

Hi!

Clone Existing was one of the best features when it was introduced. Finally we were able to quickly start with a page (document) that we knew for sure was the latest live version to be re-used.

Starting with a template is not as nearly as good, because in practice, templates get outdated.

Maybe I just’t didn’t found this option, but if it really isn’t there anymore, I strongly believe that it must be present as an option to start a new page.

Thanks!

I think you’re right, can’t find the option either. +1 for bringing it back.

Thanks for writing in! “Clone Existing” is the same as “Duplicating” an asset, which you can now do directly from the Documents Navigation:

This is a much cleaner path forward, whereas before you had to think of which asset you might want to clone, go make a new asset of that document type, and then once you’re in the document type, find and select the asset to clone. All of this has been reduced to a single click essentially with this restructured format as you will Duplicate the document you want, the copy shows up immediately in the list you’re working in, and you can click right into it to open a new tab and get to work on that asset.

:man_facepalming: of course!

No worries!

@kory, I just stumbled upon the reason why I actually asked about “Clone existing” but I got confused.

I just run into the situation where I have to redesign an existing page. I deleted all section and wanted to quickly load an existing page into it. I’m greatly missing the quick and convenient way to kick-start a page with the template containing the latest live version of a page. Saving a document and re-using it is rarely useful because of the evolving nature of templates. “Duplicate” is OK for brand new pages, but it isn’t covering all the situations.

Thanks!

Thanks, @Misho. I have noted this down…not sure if this mechanic will make its way back in at this time as other items have priority, but I can see the use-case.

Sorry to add my opinions to this one… but I use the Clone Existing a lot (esp on the build I am doing at the moment). it is a quick & dirty (in the best way) of getting the latest version of an existing page.

but just wanted to give Miro’s opinion a little more weight

No problemo!

Also, @DoncoMarketing (and to anyone else who asked about this)…in the next release the “default” Elements are coming back top-level based on feedback. That means that Sections will be added by default with the  - - - + Add Section - - -  markers in the Outline in all Builders except the Header Builder, which is defaulting to Bars again. You can still add anything you want top-level with CMD + click on those items (and that pretty much works on any (+) within the tool).
