Beta ❤️❤️❤️

Slow clap  There’s some really great stuff here.

In no particular order, I love:

  • the new toggles that turn off the various element controls
  • being able to access the global CSS while working on a page/layout
  • love love the new effects controls
  • that you can control overflow visibility for columns/sections/rows
  • that when you click between elements, whatever tab you were working in (effects, customize, etc.) stays selected
  • that the Element Library window can be persistent
  • the new Div element
  • that the global colors panel layout matches the color picker for elements

Thanks Devin!

Really appreciate you taking things for a spin and sharing these thoughts. Couple remarks specifically:

the new toggles that turn off the various element controls

YES! We’re really happy with how they turned out and grateful for your involvement in the discussion to make that happen (quite some time ago by now).

that when you click between elements, whatever tab you were working in (effects, customize, etc.) stays selected

Interesting! So that’s actually a bug/regression/unintentional side effect. Seeing it now I’m a bit concerned it may throw people off who have always expected to start on the first page, but definitely see the benefit from a workflow perspective. At a minimum, we could turn this into a user preference giving the option for both ways.

A setting works for me.

Sounds good! We’ll add something in preferences

Fixed the “bug” and added a preference called “Preserve Inspector Group” that will allow that behavior again.

So incredible bug. I could see this having some really useful applications but (in my workflow) not necessarily 100% of the time. Would be awesome if there was a shortcut like holding option when clicking an element to Preserve Inspector Group.

I’ve actually found myself toggling on this setting in Beta 2 when working on a few similar elements but then toggling it off once completed.

It seems particularly useful for Effects/Customize since those are on every element. Will keep the mouse shortcut in mind.

Back to my list of things I appreciate about this update…

  • Thank you for adding the rows element as an option in the footer!

  • I appreciate the new error indicators in the page-level CSS editor - super helpful for debugging

  • I like that you can collapse lines in the CSS editors too

  • I’m loving the dev console. I’ve wanted a way to easily reference var(), and I like that I’m able to do that now. It also let’s me do the inherit text color thing I wanted from this thread by either typing inherit or just straight up turning off that control with !. (I’d still find controls in the builder handy, but know I’m out at the edges with this one)

  • I’m digging the shortcut for auto L/R margins

Auto Left Right

  • Thank you for offsetting the popover so it doesn’t cover the neighboring controls :grinning:

Thank you so much for all the kind words here! Glad to know you’re liking how it’s coming together. Still working through all the quirks and bugs but really looking forward to a stable release and how all of this will change site building with X/Pro moving forward.

Just following up on a potential preserve inspector group keyboard shortcut. Seems pretty often when I’m working on effects, I’m working on several different element’s effects and constantly click > click > clicking. Would be amazing to just hold down a key to pop back and forth between (any pane really, but specifically) effects.

Thanks Josh, I’ve added it for the next patch using the same technique as the “Auto Close Elements” preference (holding cmd/ctrl will invert the preference). One issue I’m seeing is that we’re not consistently tracking if that cmd/ctrl key is help down as you click between the iframe and main app window, so I need to lock that down first but we should be all set once that’s done.
