Beta 6: Loopers and Existing Pages

Hello,

I made an attempt to replicate my current home page (https://brandexpublishing.co.uk) which has the Recent Posts element within it.

Making the page is easy enough, I wanted to check these facts:

  • You can’t embed a looper / consumer in an existing regular page, it has to be a new Layout page?
  • The Grid element doesn’t support being a Looper, nor do the cells act as consumers

It would be nice if I could take an existing page and insert the new looper/consumer tools to move to the new model but it seems like I’d have to remake a page by saving as a template and inserting into a new Layout page?

Thanks, Bill.

Hey Bill,

There are some quirks with loopers in the current beta :frowning: When the next patch is pushed, give that a shot. We’re going to add some elements that you can drag in straight from the library where the loopers are preconfigured. That will be the new equivalent of using the old Recent Posts element. Look for these changes:

  • Loopers Providers / Consumers working on Sections, Rows/Columns, Grids/Cells, and Divs. (All Layout elements minus Bars/Containers in the Header/Footer builders)
  • New “Posts” elements in the library that are effectively prefabricated combinations of Rows/Columns preconfigured to use Loopers. You can just drag them into the page like you would the old Recent Posts elements
  • Loopers working in all builders. The only time you won’t need a provider is the Archive (or WooCommerce Archive) mode of the Layout Builder because we can inherit the main loop.
