Beta 6: Element type Name

Hello,

I am learning using a template blog layout, where the row is called Posts and the individual post items called Post. Within Post is the image and title. The URL of the post is on the contain ‘Post’ which I think is a column.

But the label ‘Column’ doesn’t display in the sidebar leaving me somewhat confused on what sort of element I am looking at. A screenshot explains.

IMO the element type should be shown at the top of the panel on the left to give understand on what you are editing.

What would be double confusing is to name the column ‘Row’ and the row ‘Column’ just to make things really mental.

To be fair this confusion can be created in the current version of Pro too. I think this is important for Noobs as learning the platform takes a lot of effort.

@BrandexPublishing, the breadcrumb isn’t helping? :slight_smile:

I am a total nitwit. Sorry, didn’t spot that.

This is the problem with the new breadcrumb positioning. It is easily overlooked.

@BrandexPublishing When it comes to UI, it is never the user’s fault. If things are hard to spot, then they are hard to spot. We think we are stupid but that’s simply how the brain works.

However, this is a tool we will be using all the time, so a thing that was overlooked initially, will become a second nature in time. The important thing is to keep the UI as friendliest as possible for brand new users, but some compromises are ok if necessary.

Thanks everyone. I can see how this might be confusing, especially since the element is renamed to “Post” even though the underlying type is “Column”. We’re using this pattern much more where a base elements (e.g. Headline or Button) is renamed in the library to something more descriptive. Definitely a risk for cognitive disconnect like we’re seeing here. I’m not sure how/if we’ll address it yet, but we’ll keep the concern in mind.
