Beta 5: Variants

Hello,

I suddenly understood how the front end preview displays a specific category of product, and then linked up a header to jump me into specific products, so I think I’m beginning to grasp things.

New question, I have a product with 50 variants, of hair colour. I’ve looked hard at the Woo fields and can’t guess in what way I can offer a customer the choice of variants on a specific product page, and add to Cart.

I get the idea of the Looper but that’s not it - it’s having a dropdown on the single product page of the underlying variants.

Any clues welcome, Bill.

Here’s the actual test data on a live site: https://www.haircoandbeauty.co.uk/product/wella-koleston-perfect-me-60ml/

The variants drop down is insane - maybe a hundred variants. The challenge is to represent that situation using the new Pro. A dropdown would be fine but I don’t know how to build it. I can see from the Add to Cart template button there’s a pile of custom attributes too, not sure what they are all about.

And finally, I think this was asked earlier, customers might want 10 units of the product - not sure where that comes in either.

Onwards…

Hey Bill, try the “Add to Cart Form” element. That’s how you can invoke WC’s native templates for variants. It will simply output the WC form on the page and it picks up the base stack styling. Because it is just outputting the WC markup, all the detection is there to display the appropriate variant options.

Regretfully, that element doesn’t have styling options - if we added options now there’s a good chance they would break or be obsolete in the next major Pro update. We’re just not in a good position to add them before we do the theme options reboot and add global form styling options.

I’m trying to be positive but DANG!

Did that element not work, or are you just put off by the lack of customization? Understandable for sure - we just have to draw the line somewhere until we can make better sitewide/global options. Let me know if there’s anything else you need here.

It works functionally for sure - just wish I could build the variant picker using Pro elements. I understand your feedback. Likewise on the filtering. Bill.

Gotcha, we definitely want to revisit that once we scope out the Global Theme Options updates and have more of a clear path forward. Once that’s locked down we can come back to more components for building the variant forms or at least more styling options.
