Beta 3 : switching between header builder / page builder etc

Apologies if this has been mentioned before. I thought I saw it mentioned but couldn’t find it.

When working in the page builder clicking an element in the header the builder switches straight into the header builder. This is fine if you wanted to move to the header builder but not ideal if you clicked the item by mistake. The time it takes switch and then switch back is painful. While testing this is something I keep doing.

I think we need the message back to warn that you are switching with the option to confirm or not. As obtrusive as the confirmation is it is far better then having switch back and forth because I’ve accidentally clicked something that was part of a different builder.

Good point here. I’m wondering if a bigger concern is that it can be clicked accidentally. For example, you make a stray click to just deselect something and don’t realize you clicked inside a Header/Footer. Your flow is then interrupted by that popup. At least you didn’t navigate away, but still potentially annoying.

I’m wondering if instead of clicking anywhere in the header, it would be better to make a smaller clickable area like a button so it’s not as easy to mistakenly click it. We’ll keep both options in mind.

Interesting idea. I’d have a hard time finding a way for this clickable area not to visually interfere with the design of the Header and the Footer. I’m sure you’ll do it in the best way possible. :slight_smile:

I dig it.

If the existing “Edit Header/Page/Footer” label was made into some sort of obvious button (maybe centered, and with different styling), that seems like a decent compromise since it’s invisible until you hover over that area. Anyway, look forward to seeing what you guys come up with too :slight_smile:

I don’t really mind.

What @devinelston suggested would work well.

I also don’t mind the pop up. Still far better than going into something you don’t want to be in. The pop is fairly instantaneous compared to going into something unwanted and then having to come back.

Right now if you drag in “The Content” in the Layout Builder, we have that little icon that lets you navigate into that post. We could re-use that pattern. It would only appear on hover, and because it only shows on headers/footers you aren’t currently working with, it shouldn’t really interfere with the design.
