The visibility option is absolutely incredible—thanks, @charlie! One thought: would it make sense to adjust its placement in the button lineup? Maybe it’s just me, but out of habit, I often go to duplicate something and end up deleting it instead, since the trash can is now the second-to-last icon. What if the eye icon was moved to the left of the duplicate icon?
Glad you are enjoying it — it’s going to be super handy! We spent a lot of time discussing placement as there is a fair bit of muscle memory at the front and end of that list with inspect and delete. The challenge with putting it in the middle is there would be some jumping around (of the icon) when going from active to hidden. We were trying to minimize that by keeping it at the end for a more seamless transition between states.
Certainly something we can keep an eye on (no pun intended). Keep us posted how it feels once it’s in production for a while and the brain is re-trained.
@kyle / @charlie – Welp, I’m convinced. The new visibility feature is actually far more useful than I had even imagined and the placement of the icon is spot on once you get used to the workflow. So this leads me to a thought:
Currently, the only place to access visibility is on the outline
tab.
But when you’ve inspected an element, you typically get the duplicate
and delete
icons carried over. So this got me thinking that it might be useful if visibility was carried over here too? Just a thought, but I’ve definitely found myself looking here numerous times before jumping back to outline.
Your ears must have been burning…we were just discussing this earlier this week, and it will be coming to the Inspector, most likely in the next point release. I’ve also found it to be incredibly helpful!
