When I make a search for an element in the elements pane, I find what I wanted and insert into the preview area. After working a while, I want to make a new search, but the old one is still there.
I think the search field should be cleared once we exit the elements pane.

Funny I noticed this as well and thought it was quite handy. Though I understand that most people may find it annoying.
@JvP, I can certainly see how this might be a “tomāto, tomăto” situation where there will likely be camps that prefer it both ways for different reasons. I do feel that in using the tool myself, I have personally found it to be more unexpected than helpful. I do think that clearing out the search fields makes things a little cleaner and consistent each time you come back to these workspaces. And since the field is auto-focused when you arrive, it’s not too difficult to simply type in the value again if searching for the same thing, but also nice that it might be empty to set you up for you next search if it is different.
True. It was only because I was adding several of the same element that made it convenient. But overall the expected behavior is for the search to be cleared as you say.
