Beta 1 WooCommerce / UI Feedback

First off well done awesome job.

I don’t have much time to test at the moment but have been super excited about this beta and the layout builder. Besides custom post types etc. I’ve been quite excited by the ability to create custom pages for WooCommerce.

That said I haven’t had much time so it is very possible I have missed somethings and perhaps with more time would have figured them out so apologies if some of the feedback is incorrect or whatever.

Just a few things from the actual builder itself.

Row - Inspector - Layout block layout options fall out of container.

Actual Save button is a little confusing - says things aren’t saved but not clear you can actually push the button as the cursor doesn’t change. Same for most of the elements on the left. Ideally when you hover over those the cursor should change so we know we can click the elements.

When adding an element to the page the element window stays open which is annoying. For me it would be better if the element window closes.

WooCommerce / Layout Builder

Ok so this was also a really quick attempt at building a custom page so perhaps I am missing something. Is there new documentation for this section?

Layout Settings are not clear. What layout or conditions have I assigned this page to?

How do we create a dynamic product gallery based on random number of images a person can add to the product gallery?

For variable products the price only shows the lowest price / first variation

How do we create add to cart buttons, ability to select number of products, variation drop downs etc?

If trying to choose a dynamic field for text or whatever under the woocommerce options only price is visible (but price doesn’t show the variation range of pricing) See attached image.

Hey @urchindesign,

Thank you very much for your feedback. This helps a lot. I’ll post this in our tracker so that our development team will be aware of this.

Thanks, noted! will get this worked

I see what you’re saying about the cursor. As for saving, when you save, that button should turn into a green check mark to indicate there are no changes, but I think there’s an issue where that doesn’t happen 100% of the time.

When adding an element to the page the element window stays open which is annoying. For me it would be better if the element window closes.

I see. I remember getting similar feedback in early versions of Cornerstone. The concern was getting to quickly inspect the element. So we introduced a change where when you added an element it was immediately inspected so you left the Elements tab. The downside was not being able to add multiple elements in succession. Part of moving Elements into a floating window was to bring that ability back, allowing both the Inspector to be made active right away, but also allow multiple elements to be added at once.

We will keep your point in mind. It’s something we could potentially add a user preference that would close the element library after you drag something in.

Thanks for the feedback. There is no issue with the actual saving or I didn’t have one. It is more if I were a new user I would have had no clue that I could press the button. As it was I went there to save as it is where I would normally save something in Pro and I had momentary confusion and wondered if you had moved the actual button as it wasn’t clear I could actually press the button.

I see you have also responded to another post regarding custom layouts for woocommerce. I’ll wait until you merge things and hopefully that will all make sense.

As far as the layout builder goes it is not helpful for Woo at the moment as you can’t actually build a fully functional product page. At the very least we would need to be able to replicate a default shop style layout with all the woo functionality.

With regards to the element windows I understand why you want it open. This is actually OK but it would be great if once we bring the focus onto an element that the window closes. As it is at the moment it adds extra clicks to the work flow.

I see what you mean regarding saving, we’ll keep that in mind. Roger that on WooCommerce, there are actual product specific elements you will be seeing again once the Archive mode is merged.

For the next update, I’m going to add a preference that will cause the element library to automatically close after you place an element.
