Background mages missing after update, and content is repeating itself

I went to update my website today, and could see that the new release was available, so I installed it. After which, I realized that my website was not working properly. BTW, I updated a two plugins before doing the theme.co update (SiteGround Security, and Yoast SEO).

Most pages at my website have a background image at the top with some words of wisdom and now the background images on a few pages have gone missing. Also, on some pages, the content is repeating itself as you scroll down the page. I realize now that the repeating content issue was happening yesterday as well (before the update). I had not noticed it, and can’t say for sure how long this has been happening. I know for sure that last fall it was all working perfectly as you will see below with links to the WayBack Machine.

After doing the update, and realizing there were issues today, I went into panic mode and started trying to fix everything. But I don’t have that kind of time, so instead decided to put a copy of the website onto a staging server, and then go to my backups and roll back the live site to yesterday.

I hope that you can see what’s happened and I can get the website back to normal soon, without spending a ton of time.

BTW, I’ve used SiteGround’s Purge tools for Dynamic Cache, and Memcached and it’s made no difference.

To login to live site - https://tomrogerswebdesign.com/wp-admin [from a backup copy from 1/24/23 (version 10.0.2)]
To login to staging site - https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/wp-admin [which has version 10.0.5 installed]

Here are the links, with some examples of pages with problems:

As a reminder, the staging site has the most recent theme.co update
https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/web-design/ the background image is missing.
https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/management/ has the same issue
https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/hosting-services/ has the image but the content is repeating itself as you scroll down the page. https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/static-website-vs-dynamic, and https://staging2.tomrogerswebdesign.com/wordpress/ are doing the same thing.

Now that I compare, I can see that some of these pages have the repeating content issue, but at least the images are in place. These are the same links at the live site, which has version 10.0.2 installed:

All these pages have the image, but have repeating content as you scroll down the page.

If you go to the WayBack Machine, you will see that these pages all worked nicely, and not that long ago:

Thanks in advance,

PS. I was really disappointed to see that I had to pay in order to get support:(

Hi Tom,

Thanks for reaching out.
I have checked your staging site by comparing it with your live site and found the problem you described here. I have also found that you have updated the Cornerstone to its latest version i.e. 7.0.5 but using the older version of X i.e. 10.0.2. I would suggest you update the X and then the Cornerstone by following the below steps and checking if that resolves your problem or not.

  1. Delete the existing Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be the latest version.

NOTE: I have also checked by re-assigned the image to the Classic Section which shows the images.

Thanks

Just to clarify, the staging site included the recent update to X which is 10.0.5, and it has the most recent version of Cornerstone 7.0.5.

The live site was my attempt to roll it back in order to fix the issues described above, so it’s at 10.0.2. I see that it’s got Cornerstone version 7.0.5, is that a problem?

It’s not clear to me if your instructions are for the staging site, or the live site. I would prefer to do all the updates to the staging site so that I can be sure all the bugs are fixed, and then I can take it live. If that’s the case, it seems that there is nothing to do as it’s at 10.0.5, with 7.0.5?

Any modifications should be done to the staging site as described above.

Hi Tom,

My findings and suggestions are based on your staging website only.

Thanks

The staging site already has version 10.0.5 installed, so I can’t update it.

Moving on, I deleted Cornerstone and reinstalled it using the link.

Now, on the home page, there is an image missing - https://www.screencast.com/t/ugSpVfmlUkC5

All the background photos are coming through now on the inner pages, but there are two images and two sets of the text showing on each page.

Look at /hosting-services which has two sets of background images, plus the text is repeated again below the images.

Hello @tomrogers,

In your homepage, Section 2 is to be displayed in medium and smaller screens while the Section 3 is supposed to display on large and extra large screens. Please edit the homepage in Cornerstone, do not do anything. Just simply hit the save button so that the homepage element responsive settings will be updated.

If that does not help, please provide us access to the site. You can create a secure note in your next reply with the following info:

Best Regards.

I don’t know what Section 2, and Section 3 are? In my layout my sections are defined as Introduction, Services, Recent Posts, etc.

In any case, I saved the page without doing anything, but it didn’t make any difference.
I will try to provide my login info via secure message.
Tom

Hey Tom,

The “Private: Static Website vs Dynamic” page does not have a featured image.

Edit that post and insert a featured image to get your issue resolved.

With regards to the duplicate sections, this is what I am talking about. For example, the Web Design page:

There is a section intended for smaller and bigger screens. These page were created using the later versions of the Cornerstone. Please have these pages edited in the builder and simply hit the “Save” button to update the element settings.

Best Regards.
