Automatic Update Is Not Working

My site is on pro, but will not update automatically.

Installed Version 2.4.4

Latest Version Available 3.2.3

I revoked the license, and reapplied still i cannot update automatically, and I don’t know how to do it manually.

I do have this error message though: Cornerstone has been installed, but could not be automatically activated. Please activate from the plugins page. Error Details.

Also when I try to uninstall Cornerstone I get this message: We attempted to installed Cornerstone (required by X) automatically, but were unable to. You may need to install Cornerstone manually. Error Details.

Hi @murphytravis,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Since you’re using Pro, please be advised Pro does not require Cornerstone as all of the functionality is included natively

Please note that after converting your license to Pro, you need to change the theme also as it looks like you still have X since you’re getting the error related to X, here’s how to do it https://theme.co/docs/converting-from-x-to-pro#how-to-change-your-theme

If the issue persists then you can simply update your theme manually, please follow https://theme.co/docs/how-to-update#how-to-perform-a-manual-update

If nothing works then kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Thanks!

Looks like I already had pro activated. I attached a secure note. Thanks for taking a look.

Hey @murphytravis,

This is a web host issue. It could be that your web host does not allow connection to our servers. Please contact your web host to whitelist connection to theme.co and also amazonaws.com just for good measure.

If that doesn’t help, please consider using the manual update method as mentioned by Nabeel. Regretfully, we can do nothing about this case as this is server related which we do not have control over.

Hope that helps and thank you for understanding.

Well, does X uusually show up. Like I’ve still got X on the website. What do I have to do to get X to go away?

Is there anything you can do to help remove X from my site? I’m thinking that is what is holding back the auto update. Can you take a look?

Hi @murphytravis,

It looks like you renamed the pro folder to x, that is why the Cornerstone keeps bugging you to (install or activate it).

Please do the following:

  • Login to your server via FTP or cPanel’s File Manager and rename that folder back to pro
  • Since renaming its theme folder it will be deactivated, navigate to Appearance > Themes and reactivate the PRO (after this the Cornerstone should not bug you anymore).
  • Navigate to plugins panel and delete the Cornerstone plugin since you do not need it.
  • Navigate to Dashboard > Updates and click the Check Again button, this will force the Wordpress to look for updates, if nothing is blocking it then your site should see the available update for PRO.
  • If not, then you need to perform the manual update either via Admin dashboard or via FTP (see guide here)

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Thanks! Sounds like this will solve my problem…but how to I navigate to this page?

Hey @murphytravis,

You will ask FTP access from your hosting provider and then login to the FTP. You can then browse to the themes folder /wp-content/themes/. You will need to revert the name of the folder to pro.

To know more about FTP, please check this out:

Hope this helps.
