4.0.0-Beta 5: Archive builder: available elements

Hi guys,
This release is really amazing. I’m playing around with the archive builder and I feel I’m missing a few basic elements. In the dynamic elements for posts I would love to see a publish date (even better if we can have a publish date and a last updated date) and a byline object, to be able to display a post’s author.

Or maybe those things are in and I can’t seen to locate them. I downloaded the templates for archives and played around to get a feel.
Edit: 2020-10-31 : Scratch that last line, I figured out how you transformed the row element as a link for the post : I might be mistaken but is there a Post element in the templates that I can’t find anywhere?

Thanks for all the great work.

You can actually create a lot of stuff yourself using dynamic content. I think they just added a few getting started blocks in that section within elements.

When you’re in any text field, if you click the little dynamic content button in the bottom right (the thing that looks like a little cylinder), there are a variety of different fields you can dynamically fill. There are options in there for Published / Modified Dates, which you can customize further by clicking the little gear icon.

Using those, you can construct different elements however you’d like. To get the byline, in that list scroll down to Display Name, click the gear, and then select Author in the drop-down. Then just click the little + in the bottom right of the floating window to add it to the text field.

BTW, forgive me if you know this stuff already – took me a few to figure it out at first.

As an example, for this, I added a Heading element. Set the primary text to By: {{dc:user:display_name user="author"}}, the sub headline to Published: {{dc:post:publish_date format="m/d/Y"}}, and set the graphic to image, and pulled the author gravatar with {{dc:user:gravatar user="author"}}.

Hi Devin,

Thanks for writing me back.
That’s great info, including the gravatar trick I hadn’t thought to use.
But - correct me if I’m wrong - what you described applies to the post page itself. I would like to have that info attached to each individual post displayed in the archive page for X tag or Y category. Have you found a way to make that work?

Thanks a lot for the help.
Best,
Théo

Hey Théo, no worries. That example I gave was actually on an archive page, so it should work there too. When you use dynamic content within a “looper consumer” it knows which post to pull the values from. If you set up a new archive layout using one of the starter templates, you can click into the different pre-built elements and see how they’re set up. Then you can change things however you’d like.

@th_koutsaft,

Thanks for the feedback here! We’ll reconsider a couple more prefab text elements for dates.

@devinelston thanks for being awesome and writing up some of explanations above.
