Pablo EParticipantHi,
I’ve read all the information about Parent and Child themes but I think I’m missing something.
I’ve updated the parent with the latest version of X but when I see the version of the plugins in Child theme they are not the latest. I’ve read in other Topics that we don’t have to make any changes in child theme but… is it supposed that updating parent theme plugins of child theme should be updated as well?
Thank you very much!
Pablo

SupportMemberHi Pablo,
You don’t need to touch child theme.Just update the parent theme.
You can find detailed info on how to update your theme and plugins at URL below

Thanks

Pablo EParticipantThanks,
that’s exactly what I’ve done but… My question is: why if I check the version of the plugins in Child themes are obsolet ones?
Thanks again,

AlexanderKeymasterHi Pablo,
I’m not sure what you mean here. How are you checking the version?
A child theme’s version doesn’t need to change. You can change it yourself if you want to keep track of it. Otherwise it’s just a nice place to keep your own changes and customizations. The main theme version is what matters.

Scott MParticipantHi Pablo, I’m using a child theme and I updated X this evening following the instructions in the link above, when I go in to my site it shows me the new updated versions and everything is working ok.
My understanding is that it is the files in the parent ‘X’ that you are overwriting, I didn’t overwrite anything in my child folders. I imagine the child ‘X’ inherits from the parent ‘X’.
From what you describe you’ve done the same thing so I don’t see why it should be different for you, it might be worth clearing your cache and see if they update.

Pablo EParticipantThanks Scott M and support,
I think I’m messing myself up. I’ve installed the Child theme that is appropriate to the stack that I had selected in X-Theme: integrity light. And it is activated.
I updated the X theme as referred in knowledge base, through Ftp. But, If I go to plugins and check the version it shows old ones. See pic:

So, then, I suppose that in spite of having this version the one that is working is from Parent theme, isn’t it?
Thanks so much and I apologize for being so thick-headed.

Scott MParticipantHi Pablo, I don’t think you are being thick headed, I’m finding this a very interesting question.
Ok, so I’m using integrity light child theme as well. When I look at the plugins for the child theme I see exactly the same as you are seeing V4.1.4. When I change the theme to the full Parent X theme, I still this exactly the same.
What version do you think we should be seeing?
April 5, 2014 at 6:30 am #30101
Scott MParticipantA-ha…. ok I see what you mean now… and I think you’ve noticed something very interesting.
So from the changelog we should be seeing the installed versions as:
Rev Slider version: 4.3.3
VC version: 4.0.4Whereas what I am seeing as allegedly installed on my site, and despite having done all the upgrades exactly as described in the instructions is:
Rev Slider version: 4.1.4
VC version: 3.7.4I agree with you, something is wrong here… you are not alone :o)
April 5, 2014 at 8:54 am #30113
Pablo EParticipantThat’s it, Scott! I thought that upgrading parent theme, and plugins as well, would update child theme, including plugins. But old versions remains instead.
So, the only answer I could infer from this is that no matter what I see, because plugins are running from parent instead of child theme.
But now, I don’t know what to think about this…
April 5, 2014 at 9:24 am #30116
Margaux YParticipantPablo, plugins are separate from Parent themes. They’re not really related. The plugins can be used together with the themes and the themes takes advantage of those particular plugins, but they are developed separately.
so, don’t worry about the plugins. When those get updated, they will happen separately and you’ll see the notification in the WordPress and can update them then.
Hope that helps.
April 5, 2014 at 9:38 am #30118
Pablo EParticipantThanks Margaux,
But I mean Revolution Slider plugin. After upgrading X-Theme I checked the version of this plugin in Child theme and the version is 4.1.4 instead of 4.3.3
This is what is driving me crazy…
April 5, 2014 at 10:26 am #30125
Scott MParticipantHello X… I think you are not understanding what Pablo is saying…. but I concur with Pablo. I have updated my X installation exactly as described.
Disregard whether it is the child theme or not. Neither my child theme nor the parent X theme show the plugin version that you are saying in the changelog that they should be. I did upgrade the plugins as per the instructions too.
April 5, 2014 at 12:19 pm #30140
Scott MParticipantAnd this looks to confirm to me that the plugin is not being updated correctly with the files supplied by X:
April 6, 2014 at 5:05 pm #30396
Scott MParticipantHey Pablo, I eventually figured out how to do it.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, go to my website at http://www.fascinatinglight.photography and find the email link and email me. I wouldn’t normally be so obtuse but I’m not very happy at having to waste so much time on this combined with not a word from X support.
