    HI,

I’m working on a site that hasn’t been updated in about 2 years. I need to take it from 3.0.1 to 4.6.0.

I have managed to update the files via FTP and get all of my plug-ins updated. I read in the forum that I need to delete X-shortcodes and install Cornerstone from the Addons section. This is where the problem comes in… there is no choice for Cornerstone in the Addons.

Do I need to upload the Extensions folder to the server? If so, where does it go?

What’s the best way to get my site back to how it looked before updating? I also can’t open any of the pages for editing after the update.

    Sending login separately.

    Thanks,
    Dawn

PS… I just downloaded the latest X theme from my ThemeForest account. Cornerstone is not in the Extensions folder from my download either.

    Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! I have checked your site and found out that X 3.0.1 and X Shortcode 2.5.2. You are using way behind the current version. I would highly suggest that you set up a staging site and do the updates from there. This is to make sure that the update will not break your live site. This is very useful because you can test drive any X updates in the staging area, do the customizations and troubleshooting without disrupting your live site. Once everything is perfect, you can easily and flawlessly proceed the update in the live site. To know how to create a staging area, please check out these articles:
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/
    https://maintainn.com/2015/02/how-to-create-a-staging-site-for-wordpress/

The very first you need to look at is that you are using a legacy child theme. And we have made several changes which affects those sites using legacy child themes. To be able to resolve it, please review this topic first:
    https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/child-theme-updates/

X shortcodes has been deprecated and being replaced. Please deactivate and delete X Shortcodes plugin. Please take note that X shortcodes and its functionality has been consolidated into Cornerstone which should be installed automatically when you have updated to the latest version of X.

You can also find the zip in the x_package.zip if you have downloaded it from Themeforest. Simply unzip the x_package.zip file and find the x.zip. You need to unzip this also and browse to the folder x/framework/plugins/ and there you will find the cornerstone.zip file.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I have managed to set up a staging site and have updated all theme files, WP core and plugins. Everything has gone well so far.

I have just deactivated X-shortcodes and Visual Composer. Am I correct that I now need to rebuild all of my pages using Cornerstone? I was hoping there would be an easier transition rather than basically starting from scratch…

    Please advise,
    Dawn

    Hi There,

X-Shortcodes should be deactivated and Cornerstone must be activated since now it incorporated the function of X-Shortcodes.

You can still use Visual Composer if you want, or your WordPress Basic Editor, but there is no transition, you need to build it yourself, once you start if you already have the pages built in VC as a reference won´t be difficult, Cornerstone is really instinctive and you can build pages really fast.

Let us know if you have further questions,

    Joao

    Hi,

Question du jour… my X theme and plugins are now updated and the site is running fairly well on the staging server, with one exception… WooCommerce templates seem to be broken. What is the best/easiest method to get WooCommerce page layouts looking like they do on my live site?

I realize you are not the developer for WooCommerce, but since it comes packaged with X, thought I would ask! I’m going from v2.1.0 to v2.3.6

    Thanks,
    Dawn

I stated the incorrect version of WooCommerce. I have v2.6.4 installed.

    Hello There,

WooCommerce 2..6.4 should work out if you have the latest X version 4.6.1. If I may ask, how did you updated X to 4.6.1? Did you uploaded the files manually? Or do you have any WooCommerce template customizations? I asked because there are only a few WooCommerce files in the latest X. You can check it here: http://prntscr.com/byfv0r

    There were the only files:

    x/woocommerce/cart/cart-empty.php,
    x/woocommerce/cart/cross-sells.php,
    x/woocommerce/loop/loop-end.php,
    x/woocommerce/loop/loop-start.php,
    x/woocommerce/loop/pagination.php,
    x/woocommerce/notices/error.php,
    x/woocommerce/notices/notice.php,
    x/woocommerce/notices/success.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product/product-image.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product/product-thumbnails.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product/related.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product/tabs/tabs.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product/up-sells.php,
    x/woocommerce/single-product-reviews.php

I would highly suggest that you delete your current x theme and replaced it with the latest X theme.

    Hi,

I downloaded the X version 4.6.1 from Themeforest and then updated theme via FTP because I was waiting to get the license on the staging site validated. There were a few plugins that needed additional updating after this process. I will roll it back one more time and try again. I’ve done this at least 5 times, maybe more, while trying to get everything updated properly.

I don’t remember making any template customizations when we set up the site originally so I was surprised when the layout was broken. Will let you know if it works after rolling back one more time.

    Thanks,
    Dawn
