lovecomsParticipantHi, I’ve set up a custom menu to feature in a sidebar that when clicked will deliver all posts related to that category. For some reason, it is not showing the posts – nothing is happening.
see this page: http://www.altusq.com.au/category/business-development/
you can see that no posts are showing in this category (business development) – when you click on ‘business development’ in the menu, again no posts show, but clicking on the other menu categories shows their posts.
There are 21 posts with this category of business development. when i click on the category – all 21 posts appear.
I’ve assigned the custom menu to this category in the ‘edit category’ window….
not sure how to proceed from here so any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated
I will include login details for the wp-admin in a closed submission
thanksDecember 21, 2015 at 11:37 pm #716867

ChristianModeratorHey there,
Please disable all third party plugins first while we investigate.

ZeshanMemberHi there,
It’s important to disable all 3rd party plugins to investigate the issue. I’m also seeing that you have made some template customizations in the child theme. You can try deactivating the child theme and if it resolves the issue, you could start by removing any child theme changes, then slowly adding them back to identify which code is the issue. You can also compare any templates you’ve changed to the code in the current files. That way you can find the issue and adjust the template accordingly.
Thank you!

lovecomsParticipantis an alternative approach eliminating that category and starting a new one?
December 22, 2015 at 1:48 am #716992
ZeshanMemberHi there,
The output for the main content area on that category is blank (see: http://prntscr.com/9h48gz). This is caused when something is conflicting and preventing the page template to load properly. You may try creating a new category, but more chances are that the conflict will occur there too. So it’s best to disable your 3rd party plugin and test for child theme changes to see if the issue resolves.
Thank you!

lovecomsParticipantHi, I’ve disabled plugins and re-enabled them with no change to this problem, so I will move onto the child theme process you describe above.
This is a very basic question, but could you please step me through how I would change the child theme – Would I go to appearances – themes and install X, then paste the child theme modifications into the custom css area? then save this new install as a new child theme? (I’m trying to get my head around the best way to do this)
thanksJanuary 7, 2016 at 9:19 pm #736924
RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for updating. Kindly follow the instruction carefully on Child Theme page.
Hope this helps.

lovecomsParticipantHi, this doesn’t answer my question – I’ve been advised to remove the child theme I have installed as it may be causing one of my post categories not to function as a menu item.
I had installed a child theme because I have a bit of custom css governing some styles. I’ve stripped this out and put it back in one element at a time, but this doesn’t alter the way the post category is not appearing – does this sound as though I’ve tackled this correctly – i thought that by taking out the custom css it would dismantle the extra elements that my child theme has introduced.
The category is still not featuring as a menu element as you can see here – click on ‘business development’ on the sidebar menu
I’ve also deactivated plugins and reactivated without change to this menu item appearing/not appearing.
thanks for any help you can give

lovecomsParticipantHi, I’m just waiting on ftp details from the site host but wondered if the number of posts in this category would have anything to do with the categories appearing or not appearing – i wondered if there were a maximum number of posts that may have relevance to this problem?
I’ve just built a similarly keyworded category: business growth, and added it as a menu item and all of its posts are featuring well, but i’ve not included the many events posts that have ‘business development’ as a category, so the number of posts is greatly reduced…
just a thoughtJanuary 9, 2016 at 10:04 pm #739169
Rue NelModeratorHello There,
There should be no limit of post you can assign to a category or the limit of category and tags you can add in a post. All of these post, pages, categories, tags will always be displayed in your menus, Appearance > Menus. Always make sure that you have enabled it to display that section. Please see the screenshot below:

Hope this helps.
