WOW… ok so I could implement all those things but it appears my main problem is I’m running a whole slew of PLUGINS and have no idea how to get rid of them. For example i spent about $100 on premium plugins and now major portions of the site depend on them, the main one being Media Grid/Overlay Manager which also gets messed up when I run W3 Total Cache minimizer.
What do you recommend? I would like if X theme provided what i needed ie a block grid that actually worked, but it doesn’t provide that…

Please consider using other plugins like WP Super Cache or WP Autoptimize to minify your js and css files. CloudFlare or CDN would help too!
And if block grid element doesn’t work out for you, I recommend that you use Essential Grid or The Grid plugin which you can install in X Addons > Extensions. For more information, check it here:

ok thanks I’m going through my site now trying to get rid of as many occurrences of Rev Slider and Media Grid as possible as I think that is bloating my site, what do you think? Also will try to get rid of Ubermenu which i suppose is adding alot of bloat? I paid for all this stuff, but I guess am learning the heard way about SEO.

Thanks for updating. I don’t think so they might bloat your site. Lot of users using them with many other plugins with better performance. Although less plugin is definitely great but if you can manage them and have good host, it doesn’t matter that much.

Me again. I got rid of the slider/video link on home page and a few others (slider still occurs on several sub-pages).
- Ran W3 Total Cache and nothing improved – same score on Google. Uninstalled.
- Ran WP Autooptimize and it did something to the database resulting in whole site down, I had to go in via FTP and manually delete the plugin to get the site back up!
- Ran WP Super Cache – no change, same score – 38 mob / 43 desktop 🙁
I would truly appreciate if you would take a look and let me now what to change to get it to perform better. My login info is below;
Update: I killed the iframe donation form I had embedded on the home page and my score jumped to 60/74! Hmmmm. Now all that is slowing me down is a heap of ….min.js files labeled as “render-blocking.” I went in and observed for every regular js file (accordion.js, for example) right under it there is accordion.min.js. What are those? I am suspecting they are remnants from the last useless “minimizing” plugin I tried? How do I get rid of them, if they aren’t necessary – simply delete?

Render blocking should be configurable from your Performance/Caching plugin. Please try the configuring the Javascript minification for your preferred render blocking setup.
The ..min.js files are pre-minified/compiled files and not related to minification feature of your plugin.

I have tried umpteen different plugins for optimization/cacheing/etc and if anything, the page scores LOWER with them installed than with them not installed. So either I’m not doing something right, or…??? I’d really appreciate you taking a look at it.

Please note that when installing a cache plugin like w3 total cache, you’ll need to configure it to make it work.
eg. Prevent it to minify the theme js and css files as they are already minified by default

ok I did as follows:
- installed W3 total cache and followed the directions in https://community.theme.co/kb/performance
- on General page I left “minimize-enable” UNnchecked
- on Minimize page I did as you suggested above – enabled and selected minify – nonblocking using async
Score is now 56/73 which is LOWER than without the plugin installed at all. Please advise…

It’s not correctly setup. You’ll see this notice.
Minify via disk is currently disabled.And if you go to Admin > Performance > General Settings you’ll see that Minify is turned off.
I went ahead and corrected these and the score now is 71. But, render blocking is still detected, you should try contacting the plugin author. Render blocking requires that JavaScripts are loaded in the footer, but they are actually loaded on the footer, what I’m not sure is why Pagespeed Insight is not able to detect it.
You may also try CloudFlare’s Rocket loader, they are more useful handling asynchronous javascript (non-render blocking).
But note that all of these may break cornerstone, make sure everything about cache and minification are cleared up and regenerated.
Again, you should contact the plugin author, this isn’t specific to the theme.

When W3 total cache minifier is turned on at the General page and JS Minifier is set to default, my MediaGrid overlay is messed up but I just discovered I can set it to YUI Compressor and my MediaGrid works. However the page still is scoring 59/76 which is about the same as with no cache/minify plugins at all.
I tried two ways to install Cloudflare but it returned this error both times:

I would truly appreciate your further assistance with this issue. I purchased and invested massive time into customizing X Theme with the understanding that it was highly efficient and optimized for Web, and it seems that all we need to do is figure out how to correct the “render-blocking java” and “leverage browser cache.”
