Here’s my question – how can I force the sidebar / widget area on blog page UNDER the header on that page?

Currently it looks like (screenshot one).

I’d like it to look the way the sidebar looks on this page here – http://www.premierfitnesscamp.com/blog/ (screenshot two)

See how it behaves like the rest of the page, scrolling up under the header?

any thoughts on how to accomplish this?

I am using the integrity theme, spa demo,… now HEAVILY modified (as you can tell). lol.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! You are not using Integrity rather Icon stack. As you know Icon has a special sidebar that’s beside the whole content including the header. So it’s not usually possible to push the header above this. You can try absolute or fixed positioning but the content of sidebar will be overlap. So you need to use correct spacing with padding as well. As you did lot of customization; I believe you will find a way by following this suggestion.

Sooo,… unfortunately, I am unable to accomplish this, as it is beyond my skill.

I can’t switch stacks at this point, because I’ve literally made almost 15 pages worth of site, with tons of customization,… so I guess at this point I just need a referral to someone who I can hire to get this piece done for me.

Do you guys have a ‘pay for work’ department? Please let me know. thnx! 🙂

Hello There,

Thanks for the updates! I just want to suggest that all your customizations must have taken place with the use of a child theme. This allows you to make code changes that won’t be overwritten when an X update is released. After your child theme is setup, please review how we recommend making template changes in Customization Best Practices.

As of this moment, we do not have any “pay for work” scheme or department. You can check out the Facebook community (https://www.facebook.com/groups/xthemeusers/). I am sure there are a lot of X advanced users that could help you out and be able to hire them for any further modifications to the theme.

So here is a critical question… I realize only now that I probably should have been doing all of my customizations on the Spa/Icon stack,… AFTER having installed a child theme.

Is there a way to export my current site As a child theme now, or am I screwed and have to start all over customizing 15 pages of site, AFTER scrapping what I’m doing, and installing a new child theme… 🙁

Any feedback here would be soooo,… appreciated.

Hi There,

Once you install a Child Theme all your pages will be there and so your customizations made inside wordpress.

If you have made changes to core files of your theme (php files for example) on your theme files, you need to copy those files to a child theme.

Ahh! I got it. No problem. I see now. I have installed the child theme and all is well.

Soooo,.. I am now attempting to ‘adopt’ a different ‘view’ for how the blog page is structured (after reading the support article here on customization best practices and using views – https://community.theme.co/kb/customization-best-practices/ )

So essentially, since I know I am using the Icon Stack,… BUT… I like the way that the Integrity Stack, specifically Integrity Demo 03 – http://demo.theme.co/integrity-3/blog/ has its blog laid out… how can I copy the necessary files from within the /wp-content/themes/x/framework/views/integrity into my child framework view directory structure here… /wp-content/themes/x-child/framework/views/icon … in order to achieve that blog layout for my child theme?

Or am I over-simplifying this procedure?

IS there a specific PHP file within the /wp-content/themes/x/framework/views/integrity directory that governs the look, feel and layout of the http://demo.theme.co/integrity-3/blog/ (Integrity 3 Demo) blog?

Hi There,

You have the right idea about the child themes, but the stacks (overwriting) does not work that way. You might want to create a your own Blog index page template from scratch than messing with the stack structures as all files in there are all relatives and not only that every stacks has its own styling (CSS), so even if you copy the layout properly you’ll still get a different look than the demo 3 integrity.

Regretfully, this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities.

Okay, I understand. sounds like I was over-simplifying. I posted my job to the xthemeuser site, but didn’t really get a response. No worries. I guess I will head over to fiverr and see if I can get someone in on this.

Okay,… soooo,… I am really, really sorry to post this guys, (and resurrect a dead support thread, because I HATE being “that guy”),… but I have a dilema on this issue.

I went ahead and installed child theme, so all our customizations on the site are safely tucked away from the main updates that roll out,… and then (as suggested here) I went out and hired a developer and paid them $130 to custom code the the architecture of blog page as described above, with the directive that:

1 – It needed to meet the above structural requirements
2 – It needed to be coded using the child theme and be sustainable (meaning it wouldn’t get broken or affected at ALL by future updates of the theme)

The developer did so, BUT… the most recent update of the X THEME (a few days ago) broke it. 🙁

So now I am back at square one. 🙁 (and out of some money)

I’ve contacted the developer but he has gone dark on me (not responsive) so now I’m back on the support thread.

Truthfully, I don’t WANT to bother support with this issue, but I’m kind of (humbly) throwing myself on your mercy here to either:

A) Maybe escalate my case to someone in support that can execute this change for me in a sustainable way (won’t get broken by updates – because I can’t afford to continual pay developers for such a minor thing as a blog page)

…or…

B) Maybe some GOOD developer will see this thread and offer his/her services to code this for me. I am willing to pay another $130 to do it. Not sure what it entails, but see the brief posted above for more details.

All I really want is for my blog page (and the specific category pages) to look/feel/function like this sample URL:

(sounds simply right? but apparently not so much)

Anyway, any feedback on this from support would be so great.
