I have been in and out of the hospital since the fire last Dec.
and I have not been well enough to oversee my site.

I just got back online and found my site shattered from un-attended upgrades, I do not know if it is wp or x theme’s update that did it but my site is not usable now. In fact it is destroyed.

Please advise me what is the best option to use.
Should I re install my back up files from last Dec. and then do upgrades from there afterwards or try and salvage from where it stands now?
Page parts are missing, posts are scrambled or missing parts, portfolio is gone.
Front page top slider is gone.

    Thanking you ahead,

    Hi there,

    Thanks for writing in.

X theme has automatic updates, but it’s not something that installs itself without user consent. Maybe you’re on managed WordPress hosting that automatically updates it cores. And it breaks it.

Yes, you should restore your site to when it’s still working. Then disable the core updates, clone your site into dev/staging where you can fix the updates. Once the staging is properly working, then you can then overwrite your live site with your dev site.

    Thanks!

I am not an experienced wp user and I do not know where I would disable the core updates nor even what
    dev/staging is.
How do I clone my site?

I am totally novice but have managed to have a beautiful site until this shattering.

    I apologize for my ignorance.

Is there a step by step process that can be outlined for me to follow?

I will restore the original files today.

Thank you so much for assisting me.

    Hello Jann,

To clone your site, please check in with your hosting provider. Staging/dev site is a service provided by them.

Regarding disabling wordpress auto update, please check this article:https://codex.wordpress.org/Configuring_Automatic_Background_Updates

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you very much.

In my restore I did not get my home top slider back or the portfolio page.
All but 1 of my videos are gone and the code [x_line class=”custom”] is all that shows beneath the video.
The code appears other places as well.

The missing parts of pages are also still missing.
My restore files and Msql was done when everything was in ace working order.
I do not know why now it is still shattered after the restore.

    Blessings,
    Jann

It worked after the cache was cleared.
    Thank you so much!!!

I am terrified of cornerstone, the last time I activated it , it blew my site off the net.
I turned it off as requested by another tec person here and have kept it off due to my terror of it.

Do I do all the updates now or run with it working as is?

many thank you’s for your help.

    Blessings,

    Jann

    Hi There

You can run the updates as long you have security and cache plugins off.

    Hope it helps

I contacted my hosting support, this is their reply.
I am sunk now as I have no idea where or how to do these things.

    Blessings,

    Hello,

We provide only hosting services. We do not manage our customers sites, and configuring a software copy for development needs is beyond the scope of the services that we provide.

In general, managing a WordPress site does not require programming skills.

You can clone your site to a subdomain and perform the tests there. Instructions how to copy a WordPress installation are available at:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

You can then perform the same steps to move the new site into your current one.

You can create a new subdomain via your Control Panel’s Subdomains section.

As for disabling automated updates, the link you provided contains detailed information on what needs to be done. You can easily edit files on the server via the Control Panel’s File Manager section.

    Best regards,
    Support

    Hi Jann,

I am assuming that you are trying to replicate your site and set it as the development site based on the message you have attached. If so, unfortunately there is no way for us to be able to provide you with an assistance in cloning the site as much as we want to because the support we could offer is only about the theme, theme updates, bugs, and simple customizations.

It might help if you could hire a developer to do all these for you.

I just updated X Theme and my home page no longer shows the page top slider and I have all these errors.

    What can be done.
It also stated the X theme package stylesheet is missing.
