Hi

I have completed my basic stuff with my content, though are now getting into a few of the technical parts. The first thing i am trying to find out is how to add a sidebar to my homepage right side, in which i will have a custom feature box. So far i have gotten as far as the attached picture.

I’ve now followed these steps to put something on my homepage sidebar but didn’t work.

i tried content left sidebar right to in settings homeapge, though that threw my page out so won’t use that

Thanks for writing in! First you need to set Content Layout to Content Left, Sidebar Right or Sidebar Left, Content Right from Customize > Layout and Design – http://prntscr.com/b67879

Then you need to use default template or sidebar layout template for the page – http://prntscr.com/b678qo

By the way this is just to add a customised feature box, which i’d think i would still need the sidebar for

That worked, though it made the sidebar very wide as in the first screenshot. I then went back into customise layout and design, and the page looked different as in the 2nd screenshot. Is there a reason for that?

Hello There,

You can adjust your sidebar and content layout width in the customizer, Appearance > Customize > Layout & Design > Content Width. The content and sidebar width is very dependent on this setting.

Regretfully, at this time I am not entirely certain what it is you would like to accomplish based on the information given in your post. If you wouldn’t mind providing us with a little more clarification on what it is you’re wanting to do (a link to a similar example site would be very helpful, or perhaps some screenshots), we’ll be happy to provide you with a response once we have a better understanding of the situation.

I went in and changed the width, but to see how it looks as i can’t see that page wehn i am making the changes, i went into edit cornerstone and it’s now not loading shpowing me this screenshot. i have connection to.

That’s your connection issue because I can see the sidebar on your page right – http://prntscr.com/b67u2q

However to increase teh spacing above, you can use this CSS under Customize > Custom > CSS :

.x-container.offset {
  margin: 80px auto;
}

yes it’s very strange as i seem to have 2 different homepages. The one in which i am editing on is coming up with this each time, the one that is listed in my pages and that you are seeing. I’m not sure how you saw it.

If i go into appearance cutomise layout design this is the screenshot that i am seeing, no sidebar at all or menu, but both are homepages?

Hello There,

It might cache. Can you try clearing browser cache because I am seeing the sidebar too when I check. You might also want to check it in browser Incognito mode. Do let us know how this goes.

Hi,

I went in and rebuilt this page, cleared cache and cookies, though it still showing 2 pages.

I have attached 2 screen shots, here and the next message. If you want to go in and have a look you are welcome to, as i can not seem to find anything, or you can let me know what else to do maybe. That’s why i am unable to adjust the sidebar width
