iTurtleParticipanthi there,
i am referring to this thread: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/creating-a-translated-website-can-i-use-2-main-menus/
is that the best way to have one menu (english) shown on english pages and another (spanish) shown on spanish pages?
it is a rather simple webpage and i do not want to work with a multisite installation.
also wpml seems not to be the solution since i did already my own translation of the pages. automatic translations are terrible… 😉
thanks a lot! kai

JoaoModeratorHi There,
Yes it is possible,
Create a second menu in Spanish.
Go to the pages where you would like to use it, click Edit Page on your WordPress Top Admin bar
Once you are on your classic back-end editor, scroll down and select this menu as your one page navigation menu.
Hope that helps
Joao

iTurtleParticipanthi joao,
thanks a lot!
do you refer to the “one page navigation”?
i can’t see anything else to change the main menu.
and if so. isn’t that only for the “one page version” of the layout?
thanks again! regards, kaiOctober 8, 2016 at 12:39 am #1207680
DarshanaModeratorHi there,
If you already have WPML, please check the following resource (https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/).
Hope that helps.

iTurtleParticipanthi darshana,
thanks! i do not have wpml. i just read about it here in the forum as a possible solution.
please let me know about my questions above (2:13pm).

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
You have two options:
#1 Create a multilingual site with plugins like WPML.
#2 Or create second menu and set it as one page navigation.
Hope it helps.

iTurtleParticipanthi christopher,
thanks a lot! that helps!
i somehow prefer option 2.
i also tried it out and it seems to work.
i searched for information about this one page navigation on your site. and it always refers to the one page websites where all pages are in on long site and the menu scrolls around in the long page. i don’t want that. so i am a little confused if i can really use that so called one page navigation option without breaking my “normal” website containing a couple of separate pages.
so what are the disadvantages of using that one page navigation with a normal website? are there any? does it somehow limit the available kind of menu? (top fixed… etc.?)
thanks again for clarifying! best regards, kaiOctober 8, 2016 at 6:37 am #1207918
ChristopherModeratorHi there,
One page navigation works for one specific page and its menu items scroll to specific secctions. If you wan to use two primary menu (one for each language) the only way is to use multilingual plugin.
Thanks.

iTurtleParticipanthi christopher,
thanks for clarifying!
but… i tried that out and assigned 4 pages of the 1st main menu to the second menu. then i set the page settings of one of the 4 pages to the second menu (one page navigation). the result was not one long page but each of the 4 pages gehts displayed separately – no scrolling – just as i want it. how can that be?
thanks again! kaiOctober 8, 2016 at 7:15 pm #1208304

JoaoModeratorHi There,
I am a bit confused with your question.
The suggestion I made by assigning a “One Page Navigation Menu” it is kind of trick…it is not a trick in a bad sense, it will work because the only difference that this will allow you to assign a different menu to specific pages, never mind they are not One Page Navigation Pages.
I checked your pages and the menu seems to be well assigned and the pages working as they should.
Can you clarify your doubts?
Thanks
Joao

JoaoModeratorHi There,
No reason to worry, the solution I recommended is a totally clean solution.
It is just not labeled with the purpose you are looking for.
You won´t face any issues.
Hope that helps

iTurtleParticipanthi joao,
thanks again!
now i found something to consider:
the moment i change the menu position to left or right the main menu works as expected but the second menu (for a different language which i configured via the one-page-nav “trick” does not move to the sides. it stays on top!
so that seems to be one disadvantage for that workaround. can you confirm this and also suggest which navbar position would work best now? static top or fixed top?
thanks a lot! kai
