Font Manager vs Customizer -> Typography

Hi guys,

Don’t know, if I am the only one but just realized that Launch -> Options and Appearance -> Customize lead to different menus… (no idea why but thought those were the same) Also, it turns out that Customizer - Typography (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/customizer-typography/134) has more “weight” than Features - Font Manager. The fonts set in Typography override the Font Manager, although here it says: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/features-font-manager/101 “The Font Manager is one of the easiest ways to manage your fonts with no hassle and instant updating site wide”.

Could you please elaborate on that?

Regards,
Petar

Hi Petar,

They are the same. Although, we are planning to move and consolidate everything to Launch > Options. While we are warming up every user on how to use that, both options are available. Font Manager displays the font weight we have set umder Font templates. For more information, we are updating our knowledge based regarding this option. Please tune it to that. For the mean time, feel free to post if you still have questions.

Hello!
I have the same issue - can not use Font Manager because I can not disable font options in the Customizer. Could you please suggest how to solve this issue?

Hello There,

We would highly recommend that you use the X > Launch > Options > Typography. It has more better and clearer menus to make the most of the Font Manager.

Hope this helps. Kindly let us know.

I try, but if Customizer options were once set (especially on sites that had been made before Font Manger were developed), it can’t be removed anymore.
What can we do with this issue?

Hi there,

Font manager’s font weight issue is known bug in which our developers are already working on. The setting in customizer should be usable within theme options, it’s basically the same, just different location and interface. It’s only left there for backward compatibility.

Thanks!

Hi, just checking, if the above issue has been resolved? Is it still better to use the Typography section instead of the Font Manager?

Hello @kcreative,

Thanks for updating this thread. Just make sure that you are using the latest version X 6.4.6. This latest release contains fixes for several issues so be sure to check out the changelog (http://theme.co/changelog/).

_After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches (if you are using WP Rocket, WP SuperCache or W3 Total Cache) when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.-

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the quick reply! What exactly were you referring to in the change log? Couldn’t find anything specific about the Font manager.

So far the Typography section totally overrides the Manager - at least in my experience.

The latest version of X and Cornerstone are in use.

Hey @kcreative,

I’m sorry I’m not sure what Ruenel is referring to in the changelog either so I’ll go back to your previous questions:

This thread is about the collision of the old Appearance > Customize > Typography settings using the WordPress Customierzer and the native Theme Options settings.

The Customizer has been discontinued since X 5.0 so the collision is no longer an issue at this point.

This especially does not concern new sites built starting from X 5.0. Maybe sites before that version might need to reconfigure some theme options settings.

For your question:

The Typography section or Theme Options > Typography and the Font Manager are 2 different features that can be connected. The Typography section controls the global body and heading font setup whether you’ll use or enable Font Manager in it or not so that is the choice you have to make at this point.

To help you make an informed decision, if you already have decided what combination of font families you’re going to use for your body and heading, you can’t opt to disable or not use the Font Manager in Theme Options > Typography. If not, you can create font sets in the Font Manager and enable it in the Typography section so you can choose what you’ve setup. Think of it as a color pallet but just fonts.

The Font Manager allows you to use Typekit and custom fonts. If you don’t use the Font Manager in Theme Options > Typography, you’re only limited to system and Google fonts.

For more details about custom fonts, please see https://theme.co/changelog/#theme-pro-2-3-0-theme-x-6-3-0-cornerstone-3-3-0.

For more details about the Font Manager, please see https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/font-manager/101

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the detailed response, that makes a lot of sense!

So to sum up the Font Manager is useful, if you add custom fonts, otherwise everything else is controlled from the Typography section?

Hi @kcreative,

Yes, that is one way to use the Font Manager.

More details about the Font Manager here.

Cheers!
