Hi There I am using a very old version of theme x… and I looking to update theme x because squareup.com is not working on our woocomerce checkout page… we believe the theme is causing the issues… what is the process to upgrade… bare in mind we do not have this cornerstone in our version… please advise

Since you skipped at least 2 years without updating your website do not expect everything to run 100% smoothly.
I would recommend you exporting your website using ALL In One Migration.
Import to the staging environment. Removing X from Wp-Content/Themes and Installing X again.
Go to your license page: https://theme.co/apex/licenses add your URL. Go to WP Admin | X and validate your Installation
Perform the update on Wordpress and all other plugins.
You most likely will need to fix things.

We had x shortcodes, we had to disable this, and our pages dont look the original… they all messed up… please advise with this?

X Shortcodes should be removed.
