X Updating issues (cornerstone)

Hello i recently updated X from an older version (probably late 2016) to 6.4.6 and later to the latest Pro. Both crashes my site showing the message: “This page isn’t working chriscityphoto.com is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500”

I found the issue is with cornerstone because whenever I use FTP to rename the folder “cornerstone” (be it “wp-content/plugins/cornerstone” or “wp-content/themes/pro/cornerstone”) to “cornerstone.hold”, my site comes back to life again, although with the following issues remain:

  1. All the cornerstone layouts are gone and codes are shown as plain text (e.g. the homepage of my site "http://chriscityphoto.com)
  2. The link to show all posts under a category is unable to show the thumbnails of any posts (e.g. “http://chriscityphoto.com/category/weddingactivity/weddingbest/”)

Thanks for reaching out.

You have upgraded it from a very old version where there is a big gap between existing features. I’m afraid that’s going to be a site maintenance than a normal update. Backward compatibility is added between versions to give users time to transition to newer versions, but gradually deprecated to prevent bloat from the theme and builder. But in your case, you skip many versions and just jumped to the latest version which yes, lead to more issues.

With this, I recommend restoring your entire site to its pristine condition where it’s not touch by any updates (WP Core, theme, plugins). Then clone your site into a staging and to the update and site maintenance, I’m afraid you’ll have to re-do some part of it due to feature gaps.

Hello Rad,

Thanks for your help. I’ve set up a staging site as you suggested, but the thing is when I log into its wp-admin page, go to the Appearance > Themes page, and then search for “X”, “Pro”, or “Themeco”, weirdly X or Pro are not shown on the search result…

Is there any other way I can obtain the installation file of X or Pro?

I just recalled where i saved the Pro installation file, and my site is now back to normal again. Thanks you guys again for your help!
