Hi,
The child theme should be in the root themes folder and not in a sub directory.
eg.
Correct Path
wp-content/themes/ourtheme/
wp-content/themes/ourtheme/style.css
Wrong Path
wp-content/themes/x/ourtheme/
wp-content/themes/x/ourtheme/style.css
Hope that helps.
The child themes are in the correct path
Please test as described, the error is happening
Hi There,
Sorry for the confusion here. We do not recommend to rename your parent theme or child theme as it may cause unnecessary issues.
Keep the parent theme directory as X and child theme as x-child to avoid such problems.
Thanks!
Summary
Steps to replicate the issue
Old set up - over a year ago
Ourtheme is a child of X
wp-content/themes/x/
wp-content/themes/ourtheme/
X is trying to update /ourtheme/ and copy all its file into the child theme, breaking the site
To fix this issue, we had to rename /ourtheme to /x-child-ourtheme
So it is a backward compatibility issue with older child theme set up
Hi @pragmatic,
Thanks for the summary.
Have you fix the issue already?
As of now, still confuse of the problem. As said above, We do not recommend to rename your parent theme or child theme as it may cause unnecessary issues.
Thanks.
