X Theme Licenses on WP Multisite and Staging Domains

I have a couple of questions about the licenses for a multisite installation. We are running the X theme on a sub-directory multisite, with 4 active sites i.e. https://domain.name/locale

At present, we have 2 single X Theme licenses (with active support). We are unable to upgrade the X theme on both staging and live sites, as it indicates we are using the licenses elsewhere. The staging sites are using different Cloudflare domains, and are not subdomains of the licensed location i.e. not https://staging.domain.name/locale

My questions are:

  1. How do we correctly license a multisite installation, so that the X Theme and Cornerstone can be updated and used for each sub site at domain.name/locale ?

  2. How can we set up the staging domain so that the license(s) can also be activated on the staging sites?

Hi Josiah,

Thanks for reaching out.
If you are not using the license elsewhere, then there might be a few different reasons for this issue. I would suggest you troubleshoot the common issues related to Product Validation.

  1. Location Issues
  2. Communication Error Messages

If none of the above helps, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Please note that you can use a Live and a Staging site for each License.

Thanks

Hi Josiah,

You have added the subfolder with your domain like /uk, and that will be treated as a different site while validating. So, if you want to validate other subsites, you require different licenses.

Thanks

Hi,

OK, so just to clarify, we can’t enter a single X license at the network level for cqegroup.com, update the theme and Cornerstone, and have the sub sites inherit that theme, even if it is network enabled as now and is currently used by the sub sites? Because ultimately they all use the same theme folder and Cornerstone plugin, so I’m confused as to how if the theme is updated in one place, they won’t all be using the same theme.

Many thanks

Hi Josiah,

Yes, you are correct. You need to add different licenses for each site.

Thanks

Ok thanks, and there should be no issue with adding a staging site to the license that has a different domain to the main site?
Specifically, cqegroup.com/uk has a staging domain of conquip-dev.wpengine.com/uk

Hi Josiah,

Yes, you can add any domain to the staging site.

Thanks

So, with two existing single licenses on our account, we should purchase two more at $79, which would then give us 4 in total - to cover the cqegroup.com/uk, cqegroup.com/us, cqegroup.com/au and cqegroup.com/nz sites and their respective staging domains?

At the moment, the cqegroup.com/uk is showing as not licensed, but the other 3 are. Which is confusing - with only two licenses, how are 3 other subsites validated, and the domains associated with the licenses are as follows - UK, but not /US, /AU and /NZ which are the ones showing as validated?

Hi Josiah,

It will be very difficult to tell why that is not validated. I would suggest you try once again and let us know if that does not work for you.

Thanks

Hi,

To test the licenses that we currently have, I revoked the X Theme licenses from all subsites on all 3 environments that we have running the site. That is conquip-dev.profound.works, conquip-stg.profound.works, and cqegroup.com.

I then took the license key shown in the screenshot and tried to apply this to the two domains that are specified in the license itself, namely cqegroup.com/uk as the main domain, and then also the staging equivalent at conquip-dev.profound.works/uk. Both of these failed the validation.

Please could you advise as to what the issue might be? You have access to the dev sites to try the validation if required.

Many thanks

Hi - yes I tried those troubleshooting steps earlier in the thread, and I provided a login account there too, I will also attach it to this post

Hello Josiah,

You have a multisite. You can only validate the theme on your main site. It will not allow you to validate if you have used the theme in one of your sub-sites.

When using the theme in sub-sites, you will have to update the theme manually.

Best Regards.

Hi,

I have updated to the latest version of the theme, but accessing the site dashboard at the network level is throwing an error as follows:

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Exception: Class \Themeco\Theme\Services\ViewRouter not found in /nas/content/live/conquipstagdev/wp-content/themes/x/framework/classes/Util/IocContainer.php:82

This was also happening with the previous version of the theme.

Kind regards

Just to add, this happens when manually uploading and also installing via .zip - the theme uploads, but when network activated the error is thrown.

Hey There,

Can you please make the given user credentials a SuperAdmin so that we can investigate the issue further? We would love to check the Network and site settings.

Best Regards.

Hi,

I’ve checked, and the user account already has Super Admin access. I have removed the X theme, so you should be able to access the network level site settings now.

Kind regards,
Josiah

Hi Josiah,

The user does not have the privilege to upload a new Theme. I have uploaded it through the Network Admin, but still it is not showing on your website. Can you please activate it and install the Cornerstone by using the link in the dashboard? It will be the latest version.

And then try to validate your license once again.

Hope it helps.
Thanks
