X theme and updating sidebars

Hi, folx!

Brand new to X – like, as of last night – and relatively new to WordPress.

I’ve added some additional pages to my website and they’re not showing up in the default sidebar in X. For example, i duplicated the pre-configured FAQ page for my glossary since it will have the same functionality. But while the FAQ page is in the sidebar, the glossary isn’t. Others missing pages are ones i’d created in the previous theme i’d been using.

I haven’t been able to find anything about this here or via Google, although i’m new enough at this that i may just be phrasing my question wrong.

So, how do i get all of my pages to show up in the sidebar?

Thanks for any suggestions anyone has!

–Shannon

Hello Shannon,

Thanks for writing in! Please note that only pages created in Cornerstone will be displayed on the sidebar. Any pages created outside of the Cornerstone builder will not display. You will have to go to Pages > All Pages and select which page you want to edit in Cornerstone.

Remember that when a page is edited in Cornerstone builder, those contents that were made outside of the builder will be discarded and overwritten.

Best Regards.

Thank you, ruenel. This is helpful.

I’ve gone ahead and recreated all the pages i’d imported from my previous theme. But I’m still not seeing anything new in the sidebar.

I’ve attached two images: the sidebar and my list of pages. You’ll see some of your default pages with “z” at the end – i’m not sure i’m going to need them but didn’t want to delete them just yet.

Thanks for any additional thoughts you might have.

Here’s that second image:

Sidebar

Hi Shannon,

It will be very difficult to recognize the reason why the latest pages are not coming up in the sidebar. We need to investigate, what exact widget has been used and what the attributes for that which cause the output. I would suggest you please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Thanks, tristup! I just sent you a secure message.

Hi Shannon,

I have tried to check all the pages and posts on your website, but, unfortunately, it shows a Coming Soon page even after logging in. Can you please check and let us know once it is accessible?

Thanks

Thanks for giving this a try, tristup. I’m logged in to Wordpress in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari and can see the back end of my website in all three places.

Let me send you another note with my login information. Maybe i mistyped something…

–Shannon

Hi Shanon,

I am also able to access your WordPress admin dashboard, but, unfortunately, I didn’t replicate the issue you described in the given screenshot. That might be visible in frontend which shows the Coming Soon. I would suggest you deactivate it once and let us know for further investigation.

Thanks

Thanks, tristup.

Just to be clear, the problem is not the “Coming Soon” screen. The problem is what i see (or don’t see) when previewing my actual website pages. The sidebar isn’t updating. When you look at my preview pages, do you see all of my new pages on the sidebar?

If so, do you ever do a call with a screen-share? I’d love to see what you’re seeing. Alternately, if you still can’t access the back end of my website, i would like the chance to walk you through what’s going on.

I’ve stopped work on the site because i don’t want to be creating content that i may need to delete. I’m happy to figure out what the time difference between here and where you are. I’ll take the less convenient time to fit into your schedule.

Oh! And i did make my website live to see if the sidebar worked there and it still doesn’t. I’ve put the site back behind a “Coming Soon” page again.

Hi Shanon,

Sorry for the confusion. The issue you are having is on the front end, so I was expecting that it was on the front end only. I have checked your page list and found the new pages are set to private and that is why those are not coming up. You need to publish them to get into the sidebar.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Thanks, tristup!

I’ve made all my pages public and kept my homepage as a draft.

I’m still not seeing any additional sidebar items – even before i’d turned my homepage back into a draft, :frowning:

Hi Shanon,

Now we can see the pages and understand that you are pointing to the sidebar is not the widget and it is coming from the Menu. So you need to manually add or delete the menu items from Appearance > Menus.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

Ah!! This helps definitely. Thank you!

I was able to get the new pages added to the menu, delete duplicates, and move things around (another question i had that i was hoping would be answered in this process).

I now see the menu on the left side of my page, although i can’t see everything (although it is all in the footer). Is there a way to make the left-side menu scrollable?

Alternately, how do i add an X sidebar? That might solve this problem.

–Shannon

Hey Shannon,

To make your Fixed Left menu scrollable, kindly check out this old thread:

Regretfully you cannot add a sidebar to the Fixed Left navigation header.

Best Regards.

Thanks, ruenel.

I haven’t yet delved into CSS and am not sure i can figure that out. I don’t want to break anything so am trying to avoid coding.

Is the WordPress menu accessible? One of the huge draws of X for me is that your theme offers so many accessibility features. If it’s not, is there a way i can replace the fixed left menu with an accessible X sidebar?

I see that i can deselect the Primary Menu checkbox and that makes the WordPress menu on the left disappear. I then followed the instructions here (https://theme.co/docs/widget-area) to create a new sidebar. But it looks like the WordPress menu. Is this functionally different from what i just had?

Hello Shannon,

You are using the X theme. You cannot insert a Widget Area into the Fixed Left Navigation header. If you upgrade to the Pro theme, you will be able to use the Header Builder to create your own Fixed Left Navigation and be able to insert any element that you want. May I know your desired site layout design? Maybe we can suggest something that might help you in building your site.

Best Regards.

Thanks, ruenel.

Is the left menu that i’m using right now accessible to people who are blind or who have low vision? And how much does the Pro level of X cost? I couldn’t find that online, although that doesn’t mean i didn’t miss it.

I’m not entirely sure how to answer your question about my desired site layout; i don’t think i have the vocabulary for that. It will be page-based, not a blog. But that’s where my vocabulary ends. :-/

Hi Shanon,

Also, it will be very difficult for us to guide you on this point. But you can create pages and add them as a menu item to access through the Left Sidebar menu. If you have any specific layouts, please let us know for further guidance.

Thanks
