X-Pro Speed

My X-Pro site has a lot of extra css and JavaScript. Just to test, I installed a fresh Wordpress install and Page Speed Insights scored it at 100. I installed X-Pro with the blank stack and the score dropped to 85. It just goes downhill from here when adding plugins, images, etc. Can I assume an 85 page speed insight is the best X-Pro can achieve? If possible I’d like to start with a higher score.

Thanks

Hello @cforge,

Thanks for writing to us.

A PageSpeed score of around 85 on a fresh X/Pro install with the Blank Stack is normal. The score depends on many factors like server performance, asset loading, and Core Web Vitals. Adding plugins, images, or scripts can change the score, but with good optimization, it can be improved further.

Some common areas to focus on include

  1. Choose a better web hosting provider
  2. Reduce image sizes
  3. Minify JS and CSS files
  4. Use advanced caching mechanisms with a caching plugin
  5. Use a CDN
  6. Clean up WordPress database, etc.

Thanks for understanding

I’m hosting on a VPS at cloudways with 4gb ram and 8 cores, redis, and their Breeze cache and there is not yet any content on the site as I chose the blank stack. So with the environment the exact same the score went from 100 to 85 just by installing X Pro with no configuration. I see depreciated scripts in console.

After adding the core plugins I will need the score dropped to 78 but none of them are configured or deployed. I’ve also always had sites break when minifying or combining JS.

I’m building this site as a rebuild of a site just build that is full of so many JS issues that things are constantly breaking. It has a highly customized functions.php in the child theme. I’m hoping to rebuild slowly and address each JS error as it arises. Do you have a suggestion for a tool to monitor for them other than check every page in developer console? It’s a lot of work to do to every page with every site addition.

Thanks,
Mark
