Wrong Avg. Session Duration - Very High Or Zero

Hi, I noticed that I have problem with my average session duration… I made some tweaks and from that moment it showing like that…

what I tried but didn’t work…

  1. I Disabled all plugins
  2. Used analytics tracking code via plugin in header/footer
  3. I installed Reduce Bounce Rate plugin that should fire the trigger every 10 second when use is on the site and then avg. session duration should be also changed
  4. I checked if the site doesn’t have code installed twice but not…
  5. I checked footers, headers, body etc… in the theme editor and nothing was there

How to fix that, please? I also need to know how to edit that tracking code in the analytics… I believe if I will put some value to that it will start working?

So here is code… and I don’t know what parameters to put in there to finally work properly…

OR what should I do ?? I really think that would cause it by the theme itself?

Hi Viliam,

Thanks for reaching out.

It can happen to any theme and it’s not caused by the theme. Please check this https://www.visma.com/blog/analysis-reporting-average-session-duration-google-analytics/

I recommend contacting google experts too, the tracker is just a tracker and is no relation with the design of a site. It tracks access and session per visitor, and traffics too. Have you tried comparing it to the traffic you’re getting to your site? Like from other tools?

Thanks!

wow, thanks, I didn’t believe that tracking code would have problematic

but isn’t the problem caused by “NOT SET” traffic sources? And just things like bots / fake traffic and thing like that ? You know what I mean?

Because if I have some spam traffic, it would cause some problems I guess? For example I having also some weird bounce rate numbers like 50,00% or 66,66% or 0% and also 100% … that also doesn’t seem to be correct

any contact for these google experts? where should I write to them?

Hi Viliam,

Unfortunately, we are not experts on Google Analytics nuances and the issue is not related to our product and outside of our support scope.

You will need to contact a developer or Google Analytics expert. We do not have any recommendations on where you can find such experts. I did a Google search that might help you with the matter.

Thank you for your understanding.
