WPLM cornerstone does not work

Hi,
I translated my website with WPML.
Everything was working OK, but then I made some modifications in Cornerstone and now I have two big problems :

  1. Some parts are not translated anymore
  2. The layout is screwed up

The weird thing is that it looks OK in Cornerstone…

Actually, this issue is back !

Here’s what I noticed :

When I edit a page (probably when editing classic elements) then the problem comes back.

The layout in Cornerstone looks OK. But the actual page is mixed with content in the two languages as shown in the images above.

Here’s an example of the mixed content :

It seems that the wrong content appears in the “Classic” elements.

I had to “unlink” all translated pages so that when we edit them, the page doesn’t crash.
But the homepage is still linked with the translation, this is mandatory…

To recap :

When a page is translated, any modifications screw up the page although the page appears OK in Cornerstone.

Hi @baysquentin,

I see the problem at hand. This is mostly caused by the Translation Manager of the WPML. The best way to make sure the translation will work is to have separate pages and do not use the Translation Manager.

So for the new pages that you create, just go to the page using Cornerstone and save the layout. Then click the Flag icon of the other language at the bottom right section of the screen and choose to copy the current layout. That will cause the page to be copied for the translation, and you will have the Cornerstone at hand to go to each element and add the new language text instead of the current one.

The method above will ensure you will not get the inconsistencies you described. Now, for the current pages as they are already linked, I suggest that you use the duplicate post plugin to duplicate the page. The duplicated page will not be linked in the Translation manager, and then you can use the same method to create a copy of the page inside the Cornerstone by clicking the language flag at the bottom right section of the screen.

(I tried with another page. Same result.)

It took WPML a couple of weeks to find and send a “workaround” for the issue.
Unfortunately, the workaround still applies!!!
I’ve just checked and see that my ticket/thread has since been closed, which I find difficult to understand as there is still no solution to the issue…

This is my workaround again, which I shared in my thread…

  • Open the Secondary Language translation of the specific page
  • Under the Language section , Select “–None–” for the option “This is a translation of”
  • Update the page and refresh, make sure you stay on the same page
  • Click on Edit with Cornerstone,
  • Make some minor changes, save and exit to the dashboard
  • Under the Language section , Click “Connect with translation” Choose English default page to assign
  • Update the translation

Unfortunately, above steps are needed every single time you have a modification to your page/post and unfortunately, it applies to all new pages created.

Surely, we’re not the only 2 clients using multilingual pages in connection with WPML???

This is not true at least on all my tests, perhaps the issue is only specific to your setup as I can’t reproduce it anywhere on my installation and other sites. The linking of translations is done by WPML and not by cornerstone so the modification within the cornerstone has no relation and should not affect any linking of translation pages. But yes, if you use duplication manually which has no relation to cornerstone, then you will always needed to perform the above steps, but again, it has nothing to do with cornerstone as the duplication bypasses the cornerstone’s own duplication feature (language switcher within the builder). Would you mind providing a video recording on how you’re translating them?

There is no fix for that issue since cornerstone has no ability to track the changes made outside the cornerstone, that includes manual duplication and linking (translation of).

@baysquentin, your issue is different and that option This is a translation of is hidden since it’s handled by cornerstone internally within the builder. That only means your translations are already linked together. Please forget duplication for now and let’s start a new regarding the base64 display issue. It could be due to encoding issue caused by special characters present on those slides. You could confirm that since it only happens once you add the slider, and it works okay on the test page without it.

I also noticed that your site is a bit slow, would you mind providing your FTP or Cpanel login credentials as well? There could be more to it and maybe I could find something from your existing setup.
