Wp_postmeta table is over 1 GB and 9,000,000 records

The wp-postmeta table is filled with over 8 million records with the meta_value = (NULL) and it is killing my site. (The wp_posts table is 78 MB)

Can I safely delete the Null value records? (They all appear to be the Cornerstone formatting that is not being used on the page/post.)

How do I minimize this in the future?

Thank you,

Greg

Hi @gpbush,

Thanks for reaching out.

I’m not getting that issue on my installation and the data added by Cornerstone is very few. Would you mind providing a sample data in the secure note?

Or perhaps something is adding it automatically? It’s too big for post meta, even a page content only average to 40kb - 80kb (and 10kb when it’s still in raw shortcode/data).

Or maybe you’re importing demos over and over, then cloning them and that meta got corrupted and attached to existing posts? Demos contains placeholder image and inline images (https://varvy.com/pagespeed/base64-images.html). Hence, it could get bigger over time. I recommend deleting your demo pages and contents when you’re done developing your site. But, they are null so I’m not sure if it’s really related to the demo.

And yes, you can delete those null value records but make sure to backup your database first.

Thanks!
