Wordpress media files there but not in uploads folder

Hi, this one is really stumping me and I am just asking here if it could be a theme/wordpress version issue…

My media files are all in wordpress media like normal, except when I add an image to a page it is low quality. I investigated and found that the typical image files weren’t being created. Then I found out that the last 3 months of any files are gone from my wordpress uploads folder in FTP.

Have you seen this before?
Thanks!

Hi @clefler,

Thank you for reaching out to us. This could happen due to corrupt installation of WordPress, try re-installing WordPress if you have the latest version and if not then try updating WP to the latest version.

This could also happen due to a third party plugin conflict, try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If the issue persists then please follow the troubleshooting guide here https://theme.co/docs/common-issues

Let us know how it goes!

An update…it was a plugin that was causing the quality issues (justified image grid).
The files weren’t actually missing.
Thanks for the help

On a related topic, is there an easy way to remove the various images that wordpress creates automatically. I know how to stop wordpress from creating them but not how to go back through hundreds of images and remove the sizes I don’t want.

Hello @clefler,

You can install the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. This will remove the old images and replaces or updates them to the new sizes.

Hope this helps.

This works great except when I go back to far I get a 503 error which I’m assuming is a server/host issue.
Thanks again

Hey @clefler,

503 error is usually a server issue, you can check with hosting provider regarding this issue.

We’re glad that we could be of help.

Cheers!
