Is there a recommended plugin for adding forum functionality to a Pro built website?

The two I am considering are bbPress an BuddyPress.

Please note that bbPress is forum plugin. On the other hand BuddyPress is a social networking plugin. So if you are looking for a forum plugin, you can consider bbPress.

Absolutely, you can use bbPress and BuddyPress on the same website. Though not at necessary, but if you envisage good amount of traffic getting on the website then I would suggest you to host the website on a VPS server and or Cloud Hosting rather then shared hosting (if you are hosting on shared server). In any case it’s a great idea to host the website on a VPS server and or Cloud Hosting as it gives you much more control over data and server performance.
