I wonder why the woocommerce gallery on a single product page in its zoom function does not support webp?
Case: Hover over the product image and the image zooms to its 100% size within its container. This works with JPGs just fine. However it does not work with webp.
Why?

unfortunately there is not an answer to my question. Or the solution is outdated. WP supports webp now.
