I updated the Pro theme on my company website today. It was working fine until a short while ago. Somehow the “Edit with Pro” icon in the Wordpress dashboard changed to “Cornerstone.” And I got a fatal error. I assume I have to delete some old files to fix the problem, but I am only self-trained and don’t quite know how to take the proper steps.
Hi @RRGoldberg,
Thanks for reaching out. Could you let us know what fatal error you’re seeing?
Also, nothing to worry about with seeing Cornerstone instead of Pro in some places. This was an intentional part of this update. You can read more about that here: https://theme.co/content/status-report-june-30-2021
Thanks! It sounds like Pro may not have updated properly since that file no longer exists and should have been deleted during the update process. This is common if you updated over FTP. I would recommend reinstalling Pro using the WordPress theme uploader. If you install Pro again it will prompt you to replace the previous version.
I will try thar. Thanks!
Stupid question… Where/what is the Wordpress theme uploader? Is that in the dashboard?
I found some instructions. I think I know what to do now.
Sounds good! Saw your recent post but I’ll write this out here in case it helps anyone else following along. The theme uploader can be used in the dashboard like this:
- Appearance > Themes
- Click “Add New”
- Click “Upload Theme”
If you upload Pro, it will prompt to replace the currently installed version.
I reinstalled the theme and at least got the main page of my website back up. But none of the deeper pages were working. I get a 404 warning for every page past the main URL. I used a file browser to delete the theme from wp-content, then synced the newly uploaded theme. Same result. I rolled back to an older version of the theme. Same result. No pages beyond the main URL. (My staging site is working fine.)
I’m not sure how I did it, but I have the website working again on Pro 4.3.3. That will be okay for now.
Hi Rick,
The 404 issue you mentioned in your previous post might be due to the permalink issue. I would suggest you update the theme in your staging server and reset permalink to %postname%. If it is already set to %postname% please set it to plain and reset again to %postname%.
If that does not resolve your issue, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:
– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.
Thanks
I think changing the permalink setting solved the whole problem. Thank you for your help!
Hmmm… Maybe. Now I can’t get a page in my staging site to load for editing.
More specifically, if I try to edit a page with Cornerstone, I just get the editing screen with a spinning wheel.
It may be working now. Maybe it was just being slow to load the page for editing.
Hi Rick,
It seems you have an inconsistent issue. That is commonly related to a slow connection or caching.
Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.
Provide us login credentials on a secure note if the issue persists
Cheers,
