Who stole my custom css/javascript?

I run 4 or 5 sites on X and just noticed that (on every one of them) all of the custom css and javascript I added is no longer visible in the customizer. It’s all still working as the sites all perform the same. Any idea what’s going on?

Also all of my old support questions are no longer visible in the Forum. Any way I can get them back (which will save me asking you the same questions again)?

Thanks, Neil

Hi There,

Thanks for writing in!
As mention, your site is working as it was before but you can’t see the code in the customizer.
Can you please confirm if you have added the JS or CSS specific to any page or you have added in X-> Theme Option -> Global JS/CSS ?

Sometimes it causes due to several reasons.

Caching. If you have a caching plugin activated or any form of server side caching please disable it to test for any possible conflicts. If you have server side caching or aren’t sure if you do, your host should be able to advise of this and disable it for testing purposes on your account.

Cloudflare. If you are using Cloudflare please disable this for testing purposes. Cloudflare by default enables an auto minfication function to compress the JS and CSS files of the theme. As the theme already serves minified files, re-minifying said files only causes to break the entire site.

Custom code syntax error. If you have a child theme, please enable the child theme and check if the issue still exists. If you have entered any custom JS or CSS into their respective editors. Please review the code for any syntax errors. A mis-placed semi-colon or a missing bracket will cause the issue you’re seeing.

If you could please try the above and if you still have the issue we’d be more than happy to assist.
Please provide following information:
Set it as Secure Note

  • Link to your site
  • WordPress Admin username / password

For your other question, I have seen you have created 17 posts in the forum and all of them is there.

Just go to Dashboard -> Profile you will find all of your post there.

Thanks

Thanks - I’ll check Dashboard -> Profile for the second part.

On the first part - on every site, CSS/JS was added to the customizer. Some use Cornerstone, some don’t. Let me check your ideas to see if they change things and then I’ll come back with login details etc.

Sure,

Happy to help any time!

Thanks

I added a secure note to this thread for one of the sites. Could you take a look please?
Also Dashboard -> Profile suggests there are 18 posts there but they only cover those from 2018 and include multiple from the same thread. I have posts going back to 2015 I believe.

Hi there,

Our new apex/forum doesn’t include the threads from old forum. It will only display threads the posts you made when the apex became available.

I also checked your site and it’s running in very old theme and cornerstone while you updated your Wordpress platform. There will be incompatibilities since we release updates for every issue of each Wordpress version.

The above instruction is only applicable for recent versions.

And I checked your customizer and your custom CSS and javascript are still there. Though, there is no way for me to confirm if it’s correct as I can’t compare what was there before.

Perhaps you can restore your site to the date before this happened?

Thanks!

Thanks for taking a look. I don’t understand how you can see the CCS/JS in Customizer but I can’t? Did you view through Appearance -> Customizer?

Hi there,

You can find it in X > Theme Options then on the bottom left are of the page, you should see the JS and CSS options.

Hope this helps.

I don’t have X --> Theme Options as I’m running an older version of X. I should still be able to see my CSS in Appearance --> Customiser shouldn’t I?

Hi,

Yes, you should still be able to see it in Appearance > Customize that is where we are looking at.

See Video- https://www.screencast.com/t/y0DEeHxYrPEW

Can you try another browser.

Thanks

Paul I’ve tried in both Chrome and Firefox yet I can’t see any of my CSS in Appearance --> Customizer. I do have a staging site for this site so I’ll try to update X there and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi there,

Sure, and please provide a video recording of what happening on your view when you’re opening the CSS and Javascript section (while your browser developer console is open).

So we could compare it to our browser console as it works on our end.

Thanks!

So I updated X and Cornerstone in the staging site and I can now see all the CSS/Js via Theme Options. Thanks for your support. Now to update all my sites…

Hi,

Glad to hear that. Have a nice day!
