White screen when I try to enter wordpress admin under x child theme

I followed all the instructions to successfully implement google tag manager under an x theme and i lost access to wordpress admin.

I got in contact with a blue host support member and he said it was the child theme that was causing problems so he deleted it and I gained access to wordpress admin again. I tried to reinstall the x child theme without making changes and sure enough, I lose access again. How do I fix this?

And is there any way to install google tag manager successfully without the child theme? I saw a staff member recommend using the google analytics plugin but I don’t see how that works based off the limited options to input anything into that plugin.

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! A white screen could be caused by a fatal error in your site. When you activate the child theme, does the blank or white screen appeared? There could be something in your child theme that triggered the error.

If you want to install Google Tag Manager without a child theme, you may need to install “Insert Headers and Footers” plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/). Once the plugin is active, please go to Settings > Insert Headers and Footers and insert the Google Tag Manager code in the header section.

Hope this helps.
