Whatsapp share thumbnail not showing

Hello friends,

I found some issue just recently, that sharing a link by whatsapp does not show the image/thumbnail of the page/post. Just started couple of days ago…
It works fine everywhere else, facebook, twitter etc… I did not find any errors on metadata, properties or markups, its seems everything works fine, and the og:image should be enough for all social shares as it was before on my site…

Thanks for writing in!

As you mention the image coming fine in other social media except for WhatsApp, if you kept the file size of the image below 300 kb, it would show as a thumbnail on whatsapp. Maybe that will work for you.

There is no way I will upload a 300kb image as a featured image bro lol… All my images are around 40kb~100kb

Thanks for updating in! Whatapps may not be able to load the cached image. Since you are using Jetpack plugin, please turn OFF the site accelerator so that the image coming from your site is loaded and not the cache version from the CDN.

I turned off the accelerator from my CDN, cleared cache, tested it yesterday and today, still the same issue.
I still could not troubleshoot the problem, everything displayed correctly in all the other socials except Whatsapp…!
Surprisingly, I have other sites I built with the same theme, and it does not have this issue, thumbnail and excerpt displayed in Whatsapp correctly, only in this site it does not.
I disabled my plugins trying to look for conflict, I found nothing…

Any help plz!

The recommendation was about uploading an image below 300kb, and not by uploading the image with 300kb and above sizes.

Plus, Whatsapp uses the same og:image as Facebook which works and I can also confirm that it works through the code. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19778620/provide-an-image-for-whatsapp-link-sharing

It could be a Whatsapp issue and more related to cache, I recommend contacting them. Even Facebook has this tool https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ that helps clearing the sharing data cache. I assume they have that too.
