What is the best "Slider" & Menu Plugins?

I realize this is an objective question but Themeco Pro comes with 2 slider plugins:

  • LayerSlider 6
  • Slider Revolution

Also regarding menu:

  • Superfly Menu
  • Uber Menu 3
  • Pro’s new header tool?

It’s a little overwhelming and not clear to me. Thoughts?

Hey There!

For a slider, I feel that the LayerSlider is better with coding and is faster to learn and has been my favorite so far.

For the menu, it depends on the project and what you or your client is looking to do. I had a client that wanted a custom header and menu so I build the header with the Pro theme and then integrated the Uber menu into it so I could add the mega menu that they were asking for.

Just remember that the less plugins that you can use the better because it adds to storage, performance and security.

Good luck and have fun!

Before you start using sliders, read this for all the reasons you shouldn’t: https://www.google.co.il/amp/s/yoast.com/opinion-on-sliders/amp/

Very enlightening - thank you for sharing this, @justlevine!

As far as sliders go you will hear from folks like yoast that sliders should not be used. And I will say they have a legitimate argument for thier case. However I do not believe all the hype behind not using them. I for one look at sliders when I visit a site. It is a great way to get the just of the site in a quick overview.

You will lose valuable above the fold meta when using a slider as none of the text is digested by the browsers and bots. However if used wisely I feel they are a great way to display the most valuable and important information on your site in a quick overview and provide links to what you are advertising most.

That being said I personally prefer the revolution slider for the functionability, but it can be a bit combersome to learn all the ins and outs of it. The Layer slider on the other hand is very user friendly and easy to use and can create a very eye pleasing slider. If your looking for basic and ease of use I would sugest the Layer Slider.

As far as the menus I would agree with @kodifletcher it would depend on the project. I have used all the menu option on varied sites. And recently started using the Pro builder to create headers and footers. My personal favorite is not part of the X or Pro 3rd party plugins so I wont give it a mention. But it compares to the Uber menu and has been tested to work great with the X and Pro themes. Uber menu would be my next choice. As it provides almost the same functionallity as my favorite.

One I have been getting use to and it is slowly become one of my go to’s and a personal favorites is the Pro builder. Up until the latest realease wich I will assume the awesome pro team will have fixed in short order. The pro builder offers a great way to build some very unique headers and make them page specific. I like this feature because it is a great way seperate your site into sections with their own unique headers to what is available in that section.

Superfly is a really neat menu but has very limited aplications.I would like to know more how people are using this one.

Hope this helps have fun exploring your options.

@justlevine I’m a big fan of Yoast but i think they fail to take into account the powerful advantages in user experience a slider can have, especially an interactive one.

The biggest factors in SEO nowadays are time on page and bounce rate. if a slider can increase time on a page and lower bounce rate then its overall seo gains are net positive.
