Website not working after wordpress manual update

Hi there,
I tried to manually update wordpress to 5.2.2 version, after discovering to be unable to use the embedded function (the “update” button).
I followed the step-by-step instruction on Codex but something went wrong and i got this error message:

Warning: require(/home/mhd-01/www.spaziovillaggio.it/htdocs/wp-includes/embed.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mhd-01/www.spaziovillaggio.it/htdocs/wp-settings.php on line 213

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/home/mhd-01/www.spaziovillaggio.it/htdocs/wp-includes/embed.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php’) in /home/mhd-01/www.spaziovillaggio.it/htdocs/wp-settings.php on line 213

What’s wrong?
Thanks in advance

Hello Davide B,

Thanks for writing in!

When doing a manual updates, please make sure to upload all WP core files. You are meant to overwrite all theme files. Not being able to replace or overwrite the files will create issues just like what you have.

I went ahead and fixed your issue already. I downloaded a fresh copy of WordPress and overwritten all the existing WP core files.

Check your site now.

Thanks RueNel, now it perfectly works. Do you have any idea why I couldn’t perform an automatic update of wordpress? (that’s why I choose to do it manually).
Have a nice day

Hello Davide,

It could be caused by different reasons but this is something specific to the Wordpress setup.

Here is a google search result that might give you some ideas.

Thank you.
