Website health in critical. HELP

My Wordpress CMS is telling me that my site health is in critical condition. One of the main recommendations is updating my PHP. I am currently using PRO. What is the seamless solution for this?

Hey There,

The php version is controlled by your hosting provider. You’ll need to reach out to them and ask them to upgrade to a newer php version. We support all of the new versions so from our end there are no conflicts. All the best!

Rubin, I continuously have to come back to this issue over and over and Themeco passes the issue off to media temple (my host) and media temple passes the issue off to Themeco.

This is not the first time I have had to address this issue and have been forced to put it off until I have time to readdress it again. I am one person trying to run a small business. I paid for themeco pro and ever since, it has been a horrible experience with lackluster customer service in actually troubleshooting the issue.

Here is what media temple told me again :
Unfortunately we do not have the ability to upgrade your version of PHP on the Grid server. I’m currently not seeing any issues with the performance for the shared web load for your cluster that hosts your Grid Server or their database server, which means that the host server itself is running normally. It’s important to note, though, that the Grid is a shared hosting environment, so the speed would fluctuate at any given moment depending on the shared web load. There’s also the possibility that the slowness could be coming from the site itself. Unfortunately we do not provide support for troubleshooting sites, so it’s hard for me to say for certain which aspect of your site is causing the slowness. I strongly recommend analyzing the speed of your dynamic pages with a website performance analysis tool, such as http://gtmetrix.com. You also might try disabling plugins 1 by 1 to test if disabling one causes the issue to stop occurring. It could be that one of your plugins is using too many resources/making too many slow database queries.

they also said this.

Unfortunately with a hosting service such as the Grid, you and I do not have the ability to change the server configuration. All speed increases can only come from the site itself and using CDN services.

Someone needs to own this problem and help resolve it. Im tired of this.

Hi @orangefloor,

We can assist you with theme related issues and questions about the theme. If there is a specific issue you’d like to ask about let us know, but regretfully we can’t do more than offer generic advice when the topic is about site performance.

If your web host can’t get you on a modern PHP version I would recommend looking for a new host. Shared web hosting is notoriously slow and not very suitable for running WordPress sites with more than a few plugins.

This is what I have recently learned. Is there a host you would recommend that works well with Themeco platform?

depending on your needs, I would recommend either Siteground or if you are a little more Techie… Cloudways with Digital Ocean

I’m just a regular user of Pro/X over 40 sites built using them. Having also read your post… I would also state that your host blaming the theme for a wordpress PHP warning seems pretty dim witted of them. In summary, your website host is blaming others for something it won’t allow you to do.

My website is basically eCommerce. So I need a good online storefront platform. Currently utilziing woocommerice but its pretty clunky in my opinion. Looking at Shopify at the moment and possibly leaving Themeco platform altogether. We’ll see, I am not a developer so these types of issues are much higher hurdles for me to deal with. Im looking for something a lot more intuitive for my current skillset.

Hi @orangefloor,

We don’t recommend anyone in particular but I’ll second Scot’s suggestions above. Shopify is also a great solution for online stores (albeit not WordPress obviously). If you stick with WordPress, I would just recommend asking before you purchase if the plan you’re considering can handle keeping an online store running. Shops are more dynamic in nature and will use more system resources than sites that are just informaitonal.
